Good food but expensive for what you get

We live in the neighborhood and have been eagerly awaiting the opening of tulsi. Food was overall really good. For starters, the lamb kebabs were delicious, but the shrimp crab stuffed papadums were a total fail. They tasted like frozen hors d'oeuvres that you bake in your oven. The main courses were great Parsi Fish and Sai Bhaji were delicious. I would order both again. My complaint though is that the portions are pretty small for the price. I don't feel like we got our money's worth. Also the decor is very bland. The stark walls leave alot to be desired. I also agree with the other posters that service was very slow. Waiters were helpful, but it took forever to get the drinks we ordered (2 rounds). Overall I would only go back if they lowered their prices a little -- too expensive for a neighborhood place.

    Has potential

Overall, I enjoyed the experience. And, I will go back eventually. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had wine, so I can't comment on the cocktails, but I will say that they all looked very interesting. The waiter's wine recommendation was excellent. The Gobi Manchurian was delicious, so order that! The peas and coconut corquettes with tamarind sauce was tasty. The entrees we had were ok (e.g. the eggplant had good flavor but was not fully cooked, the jackfruit biriyani was interesting and tasty but had chunks of white rice in it, the pistacio chicken was cooling but muted). The pistacio cake for dessert was delicious. The chef sent us the panna cotta, but I would not recommend it.

    Okay

We went there for dinner this week I must say the atmosphere is good. We looked at the menu and it was pretty expensive but looking at the resturant we tought it's expensive so it must be fresh. Oh god it was average they have fancy name but not a fancy taste. We looked at our bill it was 300 dollars we were mad and told the manager... This guy was totally dick excuse my language ... Tulsi burn in hell we will not back... Avoid go only if have money to burn.

    Finally!

We loved eating at Devi and couldn't wait for Tulsi to open. The food was great but the service was really poor. We ordered drinks by the bar (since our table wasn't ready) and it took them 30 minutes to finally bring us the drinks to our table. Lastly, our waiter seemed very disappointed with our order since we ordered close to nothing he recommended. He kept pushing us to order these banana dumplings but we decided to order the eggplant. When the order came, they announced our first dish as banana dumplings; we sent it back immediately and they took the rest of the plates with them. Finally after 10 minutes, our waiter returned with the dishes and put the same plates in front of us. We repeated that we ordered the eggplant and he replied that it was the eggplant. The food was good (especially the 12 spice chicken), but everything was cold because they had to sort our the confusion. As I was eating, I found cashews in the center of the dumpling and no eggplant, so I asked the maitre'd what was the dish I was eating. He replied the banana dumplings. I said, we ordered the eggplant and he said that he would place the order for us. As such, our waiter was very dishonest. I am sure he knew that he had messed up and did not want to take responsibility for it. They did not charge us for the dumplings but did charge us for the eggplant. Personally we felt they shouldn't have charged us for either dish since the rest of our food arrived so cold. If I did not love the chef, we would not return. The restaurant is very new but hopefully service will improve in a few weeks.
