Great find!
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place while apartment hunting on the LES. It's a really small place, and was already full at 7:30 on a Monday night, but we were seated right away. We took the waiter's suggestion and ordered a bunch of the small street food dishes to share- Arancini (fried rice balls), Ravioli Fritti (fried ravioli filled with ricotta), Zucchini, braised eggplant, and tuna tartare. Everything was tasty, the atmosphere was fun and lively, and the price was right.

great!
Had a wonderful dinner - the food, the service, the atmosphere are stellar! Definitely try the beet salad, fried ravioli, rigatoni. and the amazing cheesecake- Can't wait to go back.

hit and miss
The tuna tartar sesame balls appetizer was fantastic. Octopus salad was confusing, the octopus seemed somehow soft and mushy and tasteless, did they poach it or something? Got the most expensive, recommended option, the pasta with veal ragu, and was really disappointed. The pasta was overcooked and mushy, and tasteless with the overwhelming amount of tomato sauce. Service was great...until I replied to the server that the pasta was airline-y, and she insulted my intelligence by suggesting it was due to the fact it was fresh pasta.

cute neighborhood spot
I have been here twice and both times I have had a pleasant experience, mostly due to their reasonable "prix fixe" menu and their "Sangria Monday" night. The portions were small on the Prix Fixe menu and my salmon was horribly overcooked but the price made up for the less than stellar food. I recommend this restaurant for a good time that's light on the wallet.

One of my favorites
This was my 3rd time at tre, and I had a great dinner once again. We shared the prosciutto di parma as an appetizer, which was solid. She had the spinach gnocchi and I had the rigatoni with lamb meatballs. The rigatoni was al dente / perfect, the meatballs were moist, and the sauce was delicious. Service was slow at first, but then our overwhelmed waitress was replaced by a different waiter, and service was great for the rest of the evening. Host generously gave us one of their desserts--an italian puff pastry--compliments of the house. But I think that was only because he liked my date, so I wouldn't expect that to be the norm.

Cute place
Not a destination restaurant, but a cute place for a week night. Salads are nicely portioned with fresh ingredients. Rigatoni alla carbonara was missing the classic egg component, so it wasn't the traditional style that we were expecting but tasty nonetheless. Salmon was delicious with brussels sprouts and carrots. Very nice service, the waiter was funny and charming and attentive. We will be back.

Best meal I've eaten in NYC
My wife and I ate at Tre last night and I must say, it was without question one of the best meals I've had in quite some time. The Arancini Di Riso (rice balls) were incredible, as were the Ravioli Fritti and even the Popette (lamb meatballs.) I generally do not like lamb but these were really quite tasty. My main course was the Bistecca Alla Griglia and it was fantastic. The items the chef chooses to put with the steak are awesome. The flavors are amazing. For the finale we had the Zeppola Di San Giuseppe. GET IT. It was the first time I've ever seen my wife really actually EAT a dessert. She generally has one bite and is done. This she continued to eat. It was that good. I really can't figure out why some have said they did not like this place. Perhaps they are so used to bad food that good food has thrown them for a loop? Not sure. I will recommend this place to everyone and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
