Great ambience
I have to preface this review by saying that I feel your restaurant experience in NY has much to do with the time of year that you visit the city. We visited in early January. We had walked past this restaurant on our way to the theatre. We went back the next night after the pre-theatre rush (around 8pm). This is a busy, bustling place. The staff was very friendly. The dining room in the back is very attractive and cozy. I do agree that the menu is somewhat limited. My daughter (10) ordered plain pasta with butter (there was no alfredo sauce), my other daughter (13) order the spaghetti pommodoro and really enjoyed it. My husband and I both ordered the veal ravioli which I really enjoyed and he did not love. He actually really liked the spaghetti! I would go back, but make sure it is during an off season and definately after the theatre.

Overrated
My boyfriend took me here recently for our anniversary. We had planned to go there because of the reviews and ratings we had seen on the internet. We were extremely dissapointed. They didn't have much of a selection at all (what kind of italian restaurant doesn't serve fettucine alfredo?) and the food wasn't that good. They tried to seat us in a crowded corner with strangers even though we had a reservation. It was crowded and noisy. The "secret garden" which is what I guess makes this place so "fantastic" was closed and they weren't seating anyone there. The waiter was arrogant... Honestly, save your time and money.

A Waste
I was recently with in with a party of four on a moderately busy night. Our experience was not good. First, I would assume that the place gets a lot of tourists because it is close to the theater district. I would bet that it does not get or care about repeat business. Almost every aspect of our meal was seriously flawed. To begin with, we waited an extremely long amount of time for everything segment of the meal. I have worked in nyc restaurants, so I am well aware of what approximate wait time should look like and this was ridiculous. Then, my appetizer never came out. After we recieved our entrees, I pointed this out to the waiter who was entirely indifferent. The food was utterly unremarkable and my entree was very very dry and quite dull. I had to point out second time that my app had not come because he went ahead and charged me for for it. He pointed out that he had so generously gave us a free coffee! Thanks a bunch! This meal had no redeeming qualities. Don't go

Mixed Feelings
We arrived 1/2 hr early for are reservations with a party of 6 on a Sat. night and they told us they could seat us in 10 to 15 min. They didn't ask are name so I think you could walk in an get a tabel without reservations. The place seats around 500 and people come and go in droves. After 20 min. we were seated upstairs in kind of a walk through area but it was better than by the front door where people were eating while others wait for there table inches away. Service was exelent and quick to the point of being rushed. 5 out of 6 liked there Dinner. Food is good, portions average to small. Desert very good.Atmosphere just ok. Value Exl. Overall not dissapointed but would try someplace different next visit.

Suprised at the reviews. Rather decent.
I can't rate the value because we had some 10 people in there for lunch on an expense account, but they have a good selection of wine and the olive oil was notably high in quality--certainly didn't cut a corner there. I think American's expectations of high end Italian cuisine are likely too high. Italian food is not supposed to be 'spectacular.' If you want an explosion of 'Italian' flavor in your mouth, head to Olive Garden and save yourself a chunk of money. If you want a proper meal, try this restaurant. One of the most satisfying dining experiences I've had. I'm not ready to do backflips on the table, overjoyed by the exquisitness of the culinary delights--or whatever strange adjectives you wish to assign--but I also have no complaints. All in all, this place is quite good and very cozy. The staff is attentive. The food is worth what they charge, but if you're looking to be blown away for less money you might try a family chain restaurant. I'm usually party to complaints of the kind lackluster food and overpircing we see at places like Del Fiscos, but in this case such criticisms would be unjustified.

Would not return
We tried this restaurant after seeing a Broadway show and were disappointed. Food was below average.

Location isn't everything
Close to the theater, well reviewed, nice pictures, but food, service, and especially atmosphere were disappointing.
