Trattoria dell'Arte is a pre-theater favorite when we're seeing a show at Carnegie Hall. It's been a while, though, and last night was good news/bad news. The good news is that the service and food are reliably good. Their fried artichokes are divine! As a main, I had the claypot red snapper "Livornese," which was perfectly prepared and seasoned. My friend wasn't as happy as I was, he had the rotisserie chicken, which was very ordinary. Now the bad news. I don't remember the dining room being as crowded as it is. Did they add a row of tables? Our table was the size of a postage stamp, and we were constantly bumped by the waiters and other diners. Not their fault, since there wasn't room for even a waif to pass without pressing up to someone. And the noise level! Carmine's is serene compared to Trattoria dell'Arte. Will I be back? Probably, I do love their artichokes. But it'll be a while. I much prefer to have a conversation over dinner, not scream across a tiny table.

We found this restaurant on-line and had no prior experience there. We were all very satisfied. The service was very good and so was the atmosphere. The food was excellent. It was very pleasing to the palate. We were not rushed by the staff, but we were done in a timely manner for our evening show. The prices were not outrageous, not your typical NYC pricing. We will definitely go back the next time we are in NYC.

The only two reasons I come here: the soft shell crabs (while in season) and the roasted chicken. These two dishes are great. However, the service here is not great. I've sat 10 minutes waiting for water while I watch the wait staff hang around, chatting. On two occassions, the entrees arrived so quickly that we felt like we were at a fast food restaurant. Timing is off. I almost wish that I didn't like the food here that much.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC - I always bring out-of-towners here and they love it. The relief sculptures of giant body parts are a scream, the atmosphere great and the staff are wonderful. The Maitre d is very friendly and even treated us to champagne. Some recomendations: if they are in season, get the grilled artichokes as an appitizer- they are fantastic!! Also, make sure you are seated downstairs. Upstairs was a little noisy and filled with families and young children. OH, and as an added bonus, on 2 occasions I have seen celebrities at the Trattoria: Usher (after he performed in Chicago) and Joaquin Phoenix.

I have eaten here 3 of the 6 years I have been to NY. It is one of the best places to eat. We are never disappointed by anything we order. The ravioli is to die for! And my sisters practically licked the plate where their cannoli's once were. Great atmosphere! I highly recommend it.

Having not been here in years, I was a little hesitant to go, but wow...a GREAT meal. Our waitress could not have been sweeter and when we told her that we were all celebrating something over the weekend..she brought us champagne with our dessert. For appetizers, we had all different salads. Portions were big and everything was great. For main courses, we had the tuna (soooo good) and the Veal Parmasean. So huge that 2 people could have shared, but they did not and every morsel was eaten. For dessert, the Cannoli..yum! I would highly recommend this restaurant before a show or anytime.
