A serendipity if ever there was one

I had a long story prepared about NY restaurants, but skip it and just go to the Trattoria Belvedere for a real New York dining experience; outstanding in every way. For the buck, the food quality, service, ambience without the pretense. you can't beat Belvedere, with open french doors to the sidewalk, linen and stemware, wine and beer bar, all reasonably priced. We went back a second time late evening just for dessert and nightcap. Guys, try the tenderloin with brandy/cream/peppercorn sauce. Ladies, try the lobster ravioli. Bon Appetit! Viva la Belvedere!

    Too romantic

I came here with my boys to have a low-key thursday night dinner based on my friend ray's suggestion. first, the food was great and wine was reasonably priced, food as well. although lobster ravioli was a little too al dente, osso bucco and crabmeat pasta were delicious. however, it was too darn romantic for 3 dudes. we decided to scrap plans to see brokeback mountain, and instead went down the street to fitzgeralds and got plastered drinking whiskey and beer.

    Hidden Gem in the Hill

Love Belvedere! Just went here with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. Great food with GREAT prices. Fresh pasta, great sauces! Get the Caprese appetizer...softest mozzerella you'll find! Amazing service and atmosphere. Very romantic and comforting. I would write more, but shhhhh...don't want everybody knowing about this place!

    A great little restaurant

One of the great things about this place is a nice wine list that is modestly priced. One of the not so great things is that it has only pedestrian wines by the glass. That said, I've never had a bad meal there and have had several superb ones. There are always many specials and the fish dishes are outstanding. At the right time of the year you can get grilled baby octopus - the best in the city. It is a romantic neighborhood restaurant that gives you a great bang for your buck.

    Romantic.....Reasonably Priced

My boyfriend and I love this place! It is romantic as well as reasonably priced. They have the most amazing veal chop I have ever tasted. We talked about for weeks. The waiters are great as we were given complimentary dessert wines at the end of our meal. This place is never too crowed so it's great to go to last minute.

    A jewel at 30th & Lexington

This restaurant was a lovely surprise. Hiding next to a very modest Ramada Inn, it wasn't immediately apparent that the Belvedere is a jewel. However, it looked very interesting so we had some apres theatre wine to test it out. The personnel were so accommodating and the wine was so wonderful that we made reservations for the next night. The experience was memorable. The food was perfectly cooked. When two at our table both wanted the same two dishes, the chef put half portions of each on both their plates. Each of the seven of us ordered something different and everyone was raving about their particular menu choice. The tira misu was a tremendous hit. The waiter was a bit over the top -- chiding us because we didn't speak his language, etc -- but all the other staff were just magnificent. I recommend this tiny jewel of a restaurant and will return next time I get to New York.
