french bistro that everyone wished they had

surprised this bistro has never been reviewed since it has been in business for 12yrs! although located in LIC, just thru the midtown tunnel, with a nearby subway, still better to drive for convenience, but as we live on UWS of Manhattan, not easy. with that being said, we finally decided on trying last nite upon returning from LI, navigating from the LIE was easy. 1st, the negatives: max seating 36, cramped, tables very close , so when filled, where do the owners think we are supposed to put bread plate, water glasses, wine glasses, wine bottle, salt shaker, candle, when main course delivered?? maybe when i was 21, but when dining out, expect, at least, some sense of comfortability. shows that the owners, who are not sitting at 1 of these cramped tables, have given -0- thought to that point, but more thought to maximizing # of settings. very similar to being in the economy section of an airplane - trapped. getting up to go to the bathroom is an ordeal. i hope the owners read & think about how to make better. we did arrive at 6:30, last nite (saturday) so bistro was only just beginning to fill up. thankfully, we had an empty table to our left, & a party of 4 to our right, so didn't feel that cramped & noise level bearable. a pet peeve, no wine buckets!!!?? i like my reds being at a "proper" temp; therefore, reds usually need some chilling since restaurants have no clue as how to serve wines, whether it be whites too cold, or reds too hot. here they shove into the communal glass wine cooler sitting on the bar. when will restaurants ever discover the basics of chemistry???? pluses: with all the above taken into consideration, the service was thoughtful & very good, but wonder if same when completely jammed. the food was excellent! very reasonable prices, & reasonable wine list. would we return? if located better FOR US, absolutely! if convenient to visit, i.e., going through midtown tunnel near dinner time - absolutely! being on UWS, & thinking about a neighborhoodish authentic french bistro - tough decision, but probably not - too difficult to-&-from. it sounded "as if" everyone was speaking french, all the help (i believe) are french, edith piaf; all i needed was a gauloise! i definitely recommend, even with the negatives mentioned above - Go & Enjoy; & as title states: french bistro that everyone wished they had (nearer to them :)
