Trying to hard...
I love Thai food, and have eaten at a number of places across the country. The main thing about this restaurant is that they take what should be very good Thai food and make it too sweet, add too much sauce, and try to hard to make it something it is not. If your looking for that really great Thai food your use to getting at different places, this is not the restaurant you want to be at.

Awesome food - why does it take so long?
I've eaten at Topaz for years - best Thai food in the area, and maybe even in NYC but the wait is crazy. Not saying this as a native "New Yorker" but delivery for food when Im 4 blocks away shouldnt take over 1.5 hours - which has happened multiple times. When I'm there the food takes a minimum of 30 mins to arrive. Amazing food - know what you want when you get there and don't do delivery - it may end up getting to you after THREE hours!

Savory food
My husband and I stumbled upon this little gem. The food was delectable. We had the curry dishes and Shrimp rice. It was so good until, we ate there 2 of the 5 nights while visiting NYC. The interior reminds me of an old NYC shotgun style restaurant. It was a cozy feel. I hope to visit Topaz again if God allows me to come back to NYC. What more can I say! If the price, food and service was good. The spices all blended so well.

Affordable tasty thai food in NYC !
We were looking for an inexpensive place to eat, and stumbled onto Topaz. Their Som Tam (Papaya salad) was excellent, we even ordered an extra portion to accompany our main dishes. Fried rice with Chicken & Massaman curry were both very good, and the waiters kept our glasses of water full. Maybe not too cosy and a bit noisy, the food made us forget all that !

What happened to this restaurant?
This used to be a mainstay for dining before or after City Center or Carnegie Hall performances. Today's experience was so disappointing. The food came cold. The duck was lukewarm, the rice totally cold. The asparagus was uncooked, obviously cold as well as hard. The waiter seemed not to understand our complaint. Guess we'll have to find another mainstay.

Great place to eat if you can overlook the poor service
My family and I went here for dinner last night and luckily we had thought ahead to make a reservation as the place was packed (and this early on a Thursday night). Anyway, it took great effort to place an order as the waiters are so busy flying past you from one table to another. The food itself, was tasty. We had the curry puffs (my favorite), spring rolls and papaya salad, all of which were made well. I decided to go with the drunken noodles which I thought were excellent, though a bit spicy. Others at the table had tried different curries and they agreed that everything was very flavorful. At the end of our meal, my husband asked to have his portion wrapped up to go and the waiter asked him in a rather nasty way if he was sure about that. While I liked the food, I certainly won't come back here if I have to deal with arrogant and obnoxious servers.
