Great food, and Just Great Everything.

Wow i've lived a few blocks from Tom's for over a year now and just went for the first time and I hope to be back again soon and many times...I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful it is to find a great Ma & Pa's-type-place in the New York area. I am definitely a food-whore and love dining out though not picky, but after living in new york and having the typical dining experience over and over, it is so refreshing to walk into a place where everyone wants to meet you and be sure that you have a great time. The food was great.... Pumpkin & Walnut pancakes with the apple cinnamon butter was fantastic! (good sausage too). If you are one who appreciates an old, authentic aesthetic that other places can try to immitate but don't even come close, this is your place. If you can fully appreciate walking into a historic place and instantly feeling like a part of the neighborhood because of friendly smiles and casual chit-chat, you will love Tom's. And the fact that the food is good definitely puts this place over the top. I will definitely be back very very soon.

i have lived next door to tom's for a while and i'm always amazed at how long people will wait outside, in the cold for the just ok food. i get that it's an institution, but the food elsewhere is so much better!

It was a rainy afternoon, just after 4, and I was hungry. Heard about Tom's through menupages, so I called to see if they would deliver to me. Well, they stop delivery at 4 and it was 4:12... but whom I'm assuming was Tom just sighed and said, "Okay, whatcha want sweetie?" I ordered my rather odd meal... coffee, burger n fries, and a milkshake and in a matter of 15 minutes (seriously, 17 max) it was at my door step! Doesn't get much better than that! Well actually, it kinda does... The total was just over $10! So, of course I gave the delivery guy 100% tip due to the rain and the low cost. All in all, best service... and the food's pretty good, too.

The main dining room (they added a sunny annex a few years back) probably hasn't changed in fifty years, and the menu only slightly, which makes this place a treasure. Egg creams are still available and the range of breakfast choices outstrips any comparable diner anywhere. Service is breathtakingly fast for most breakfasts, which helps to make up for the wait on Saturday mornings. Crowded, frenetic, but always friendly -- a melting pot of all types of folks, and Gus and his wife make everyone feel important. A great place to start your weekend.

Tom's is a Brooklyn classic. It's a true mom & pop diner with all the perks, including great down home food. I love the flavored butters and the free cookies and coffee refills that are so generously offered. The kitsch decor adds to the appeal. Not to be missed.

I go to Tom's at least once a week. The food is great, and the service couldn't be friendlier. They bring you orange slices and cookies at your table or while you wait, and the food comes out fast. The milkshakes are amazing, and the pancakes with homemade flavored butters and omelettes are great for breakfast. Gus, the son of the original owner, gives you candy and a smile on your way out. What a charming place!
