Steak not recommended
I walked down broadway this morning expectly to satiate my hunger for steak this morning. I entered ignoring the warnings on the site advising me against ordering steak. But my desires overcame me and i ordered the complete sirloin steak meal. First off my clam chowder was not. And the waitress claimed it was, but no. No clams. As i sliced my steaks with forks, i realized it was beef patty. And now, after devouring my meal, all of my meal, and a lot of starch i am now drunk off potatoes and lying in bed under the guidance of my friends. Tom's was fun and the people around the booths were very amusing to watch. but now my belly hurts. But ill probably go back again. it was fun.

This place is way overrated, just because it was in Seinfeld's. The food isn't good, and it's overpriced for such mediocre quality. The menu is very limited - they don't even have mozarella sticks or onion rings.

Good, but not for real dinner food
I have gone to Tom's I don't know how many times. Twice, I think, I ordered real dinner food like spaghetti w/ marinara sauce and some other thing and my bf did the same and we were very unsatisfied. If you go in to get burgers, fries, breakfast, milkshake, and that kind of stuff, you'll like it a lot. But other than that it's not too good. But try other stuff, you might have a different taste of what is good or not. After all, there has to be another reason that it's been there for so many years, not only the fact that it's the latest thing open so hungry students like me have no other choice. Hope you like!

If it's on the menu...
I live near Tom's, and it's great to meet up with friends late at night for coffee. It is not a great place to go when hungry however. If you order a hamburger, they'll bring you soup. If you order an omlette, they'll bring you the chicken special. In fact, whenever I take out of towners there, I tell the waitress, "Just bring me whatever you're wanting to give me," because I kinda think the philosophy of the wait staff is that they know what you should eat better than you. And they sure as heck don't care if they get the order wrong. I think they feel gratified to know that your burger craving has been screwed over by the soup.

Awesome!
I go to Tom's way too frequently. I can't understand why someone would get a meal like steak/seafood/other real food there but for snacks (especially late night) and breakfast this place rocks. The cheese fries are really awesome and the Broadway shakes make the place famous. The breakfast specials (M-F) are worth it; on weekends its pricier. The waitstaff is really nice and attentive - much moreso than any other place in Morningside Heights.

Hey, I like it
Tom's is a good little place. The men at the counter are always friendly, and nothing beats an ice cream soda and fries. Fish burger is tasty, too. Reliable, clean, well-lit spot to grab a quick bite, especially late at night. Just ignore the tourists.

Not great, but good
Tom's is a diner, it's not going to have awesome food. But it's great if you're going at 2 am or want breakfast at 7pm. The staff is like any other diner, they aren't the most polite people, but they're good at what they do. The prices are decent too. That being said, I only really go when I'm showing around someone from outside the neighborhood or it's 2 am. At other times there are way too many tourists.
