    everyone knocks tom's....

...but its just a diner that serves diner food at cheap prices, considering it's manhattan. people expect some amazing meal because its facade was featured on seinfeld, and the others knock it because they are apparently too cool.

    overrated tourist destination

NOTE: The milkshakes here are totally legit. Go for the coffee or the cherry--they can't be beat. Otherwise, the only thing going for Tom's is its facade, made famous by Seinfeld. It's a plain old NYC diner: overpriced, little character, and mediocre food.

    The neighborhood place

I go here for dinner all the time with my group of friends, and we like it quite a lot. Their burgers, fries and other typical diner food are delicious; sandwiches and wraps are also good. AVOID the pasta (overcooked) and the dinner special with the gravy, whatever it's called. The soup is from the can; if that doesn't bother you (doesn't bother me), there's nothing wrong with it. Special recommendation for the burger special with mushrooms.

    Great Milkshakes!

If you're looking for an excellent milkshake on Manhattan this is the place to go!! Mixed in traditional metal cups they are frosty and flavorful and fill at least two glasses (and the cherry vanilla has real cherries in it!). The grilled cheese here is a tasty (and inexpensive) complement to the shake. Big enough to share with a friend, making this a bargain of a meal!!

    Let's Be Honest...

It would not be proper to enter a diner with the expectations of receiving the best service in the city, or consuming the most delicious meal of your life. Tom's is a diner, and like at any diner, you can expect a neat atmosphere with decent food and okay service...Why would you go there otherwise? Actually, I enjoyed my meal thoroughly! I got a veggie burger which happened to be one of the best I've tasted thus far. Highly recommended. I also ordered apple pie a la mode which I thought to be quite good. Trust me; most diners fall short of what you can expect from Tom's.

    Diner for Columbians

Perhaps the food is not very tasty but the service is really superfast if you sit beside the counter. The place is kind of small but the atmosphere is friendly. The prices are a bit high considering the size of portions served and the overall quality. There is a cashier, who is nice and very friendly if you can greet him in Greek. If you are a Columbia student and bored of places inside the school and ready to accept barely average food, check here out.

    Hashbrown Story

I ordered two eggs with hashbrown, the waiter took the order to the kitchen. When he came back, I saw homefries. So I asked him, "What is this?" He said, "That is hashbrown." I said, "No. This is homefries." He said, "Well, hashbrown is homefries." *FAINT*
