    Very good

Had a late supper here last night and enjoyed it. My husband and I shared the susi delux board with some salads, ebi tempura and shrimp guacamole. The fish was very fresh and totally delicious and the appetisers/sides were very good. The tempura in particular was great - so light and crispy. Portions were verging on generous (the sushi delux in particular). We didn't have to wait for the table (we arrived at 10.30pm) and service was brisk but friendly. For all of the food and three beers, the bill came to $70, which we felt was pretty fair for the amount of food and beers we'd had. Overall, we enjoyed it a lot.

Why ? do people rate this so good ?

I have lived in the neighborhood for years now, I remember early on asking people why would anyone go stand in line in the late afternoon for this place. No body really knew, as the village became trendy and fancier suddenly friends had gone. About 7 years ago I went for the first time, ahhh OVER RATED! I have gone a few more times even recently a last time. It's going down hill. I think problem #1 that Americanized Sushi has become a standard, nothing more about the old fashion style. Anyway do not go there on a date, if you are going to spend that kind of money go to Nabu, Blue Ribbon some place with charm.... as there is non to be found. Now the line at Tomoe has become someone of a joke similar to the line at Magnolia Bakery.... overrated comes to mind again. There are at least 50 sushi restaurants in the village most of them very good, no need to drop the big bucks at this place. Sorry it should go back to the way it used to be.

    Truly great sushi

We went on a Thursday night, and sat straight down without waiting at all. We were served the leanest fish I've ever seen, in particular the tuna was more succulent and flavoursome than I thought possible. For only $50 two of us had the best sushi we've ever experienced. One of the reasons why it was so cheap was that we were encouraged to bring our own drinks (perhaps a problem with their drinks licence, I'm not sure if this is usual).

    great sushi

Only waited 30 mins on a Saturday night. Thought the fish was very fresh...much better than the neighborhood sushi joint I would normally go to in my own neighborhood. No atmosphere at all though!

Good, but not worth the $$$

You know what, the fish was excellent, but really not special in any particular way. There are just so many good sushi places in NYC that are charging half the price as Tomoe. It's just not worth it.

Over priced Sushi, chefs, and place

When I first tasted their sushi was in early 90’s. It was great! Freshness of fish, the price and the sushi rice itself was excellent! This time, I left feeling of frustration over not being able to have a good Sushi, unfortunately. My husband ordered SpicyToro Tataki for appetizer special. Making Toro spicy is already a sign of not good quality but he wanted so we had. It didn't even tast likeToro but like Tuna. Then, my Sushi Dinner Regular came. The plate was very small nothing special. The quality of Sushi was not even great for paying top price for 8 pieces of Sushi and Tuna roll for $27. We spend $160 and left empty. The rice, the cut pieces and its presentation (this place was never for the visual but quality and the price)- we could have had at a non-Japanese Sushi place. Sushi, chef, and place are tired. I will never go back again! It is very sad to say.

Still good but used to be great.

The fish is still fresh but the prices are no longer the steal it once was. With the price increases, the long lines no longer seem worth it. The long time chef is also no longer behind the counter on a daily basis. Sorry to say I will have to find another place to get sushi.
