Amazing
Since I was a little girl I have been enjoying consistently delicious sushi at reasonable prices- the fish is fresh, the pieces are big and the taste is delicious! The line is well worth the wait- and the atmosphere is very simple and a breath of fresh air from the overly decorated trendy places popping up. For a great deal go for the maki combos or the sushi/sashimi dinners... staff is friendly and easily assists special requests

Amazing quality fish
I live in LA now, but Tomoe is my favorite sushi place in both NY and LA. The quality of the fish is amazing, and considering the high quality, I think this place is relatively inexpensive. The line is often long but well worth the wait. trust me!

My favorite!
I started going to Tomoe years ago and it is definitely still my favorite sushi place in the city! The spicy tuna tartar is to die for and the fish is always extremely fresh. Once you start going several times, the staff will remember your face. I think all sushi lovers should give this place a shot! :)

Hype 4 Nothing
The only reasonable explanation for people waiting 30-40 mins in line to get in I can come up with is to find out what the fuss is all about. I've had fresher fish at every other sushi place. White tuna is not even on the menu if you like to speak quality prices are quite high for nothing special fish, basic menu, poor service, tiny dirty restroom that required another 15 mins wait. My yellow tail roll had some tough-to-identify (look & taste) mixture that vaguely resembled yellow tail, clearly have had a rough childhood. This is definitely a perfect place for fans of intimacy as sitting on top of your neighbor and partaking in their conversation is a guaranteed part of Tomoe Sushi experience.

worth the wait!
The only time I had sashimi THIS fresh was when I was in Asia and the American dollar exchange rate afforded me a lot of luxury dining experiences- the sashimi here is FRESH and well worth the wait outside the resturant. I recommend it to ANYONE!

Not recommended
I'm not sure how sushi can be warm, but the spicy tuna hand roll definitely was warm and was as mushy as tuna salad. The seaweed salad tasted like fish and was barely even edible. To make matters even worse, the sushi was quite pricey. I will not return.

when dining out in tokyo...
i was having a conversation with the sushi master at the restaurant... after he determined that i was from manhattan he asked if i ever ate sushi in the city ...i replied yes quite often actually..he then inquired as to whether i had a favorite restaurant..i replied tomoe and he replied "on thompson street? i know and love that place"... no more needs to be said!
