Tomo Japanese Fusion
Posted by Terry. R on 04/06/2014
Me and my girlfriend googled a sushi place nearby her house (not wanting to travel all the way to Manhattan). We found 2 spots nearby and chose the higher rated locale (tomo). We were surprised to find that it was completely empty save for the stores manager who was eating a meal with her family. The prices are the highlight of this review. Everything was half of what it would be in any Manhattan location. The waitress wasn't rude but seeing we were the only customers, chatting it up a bit wouldn't hurt (she didn't...no points lost for this) Now for the food. The sushi was decent but the sashimi was a temp below frozen...we tried to enjoy it but it was just too cold...we also had the friend oysters and they were pretty good. The place was too dark (which my girl pointed out when we got there). And about 1 hour into our stay they turned the lights on....we laughed.. but the decor was pretty good. Its not state of the art. But it was a nice place. Over all we could have done much worst. And we had a decent time.. if you dont want to go to a place in the city and you don't have much money. I'd say saeatch around a buy more ...can't find anyplace ...then this is your spot

I always order sushi and tempura from here. Their rolls are pretty good and are a great addition to sushi. I've been to japan and tasted better sushi, but I rarely find something better than this is New York unless I dish a lot more money. Therefore, the value is very decent. The sushi really is good. You get a great assortment of sushi and a tuna roll for $15 for instance. The fish is super fresh and very tasty, and the pieces are large and filling. Get your Japanese fix once/twice a week.

Food okay (a little expensive- $5 for a sweet potato roll), but took over an hour & a half to get 3 rolls! The restaurant wasn't even busy. So slow! Won't be going here again any time soon.
