The shrimp tacos are delicious, the fish tacos are tasty HOWEVER, charging $11.00 for such miniscule portions is flat out robbery - isn't there a Food Patrol in this town who can monitor restaurtants ???? There oughta be .....

This "wannabe" Nuevo Latino restaurant's service and food don't match the price and quality. My friend's brick oven-roasted shredded suckling pig was nasty tasting (like wild game)--I couldn't stomach more than one bite and I love pork. He returned it and replaced it with the guajillo-marinated pork tacos which tasted just like the plate he returned. I ordered the marinated pork and it didn't taste the same. My daughter enjoyed her chile-rubbed skirt steak tacos although they were on the greasy side. I don't drink so I can't tell if $13 is an average price for a margarita but it seems a bit steep to me. The $12 guacamole order had less than half an avocado (I watched it being made.) Our waiter was polite but not friendly, and although the manager apologized for the returned item (which he also took off the tab) he didn't offer the generally standard drink on the house or anything else to compensate my friend for the inconvenience. We most definitely won't be back there.

We went to Toloache before a show and thought the menu looked great. We were psyched for a birthday celebration and made reservations well in advance, along with a request for a cake, which we were promsed in chocolate. From the moment we were seated, we were told by a swindler waiter that they were out of Chardonay. We then asked for a Watermelon margarita and were told they had no watermellon and did we want a more expensive drink or a more expensive wine. After then ordering a child a plain quesadilla, our waiter then tried to sell a fancier version, along with the guacamole trio when we just ordered one version. After 15 minutes we decided to order ceviche and lobster tacos, only to be told they were out of lobster. We ordered eggs just to get the heck out of there and to the show, only to realize the swindler waiter never even served the ceviche we had ordered for out appetizer. At the end the waiter brought out a crappy cupcake that was supposed to be the cake? What a disappointment. Better learn how to stock up on your menu items on a busy Saturday!

There aren't many good Mexican restaurants in Manhattan, but this is definitely one of them. Unfortunately, the portions are tiny while the prices are large. An example: two silver-dollar pancake-sized soft tacos with chicken in them will set you back $15. If they were the only game in town this might be something you'd have to grin and bear, but there are several "nuevo Mexican" on the west side without this problem (Hell's Kitchen, for example) which thereby render Toloache irrelevant.

The food was actually quite enjoyable but my biggest complaints would be: 1) Tacos- only 2? that's an appetizer, not a meal...actually the food was super good but you're going to leave starving if you order tacos as an entree. 2) No salsa and chips to snack on. They charge you $4 if you want it and while they bragged about the salsa- it really wasn't that great. They told us first that they would try to get us free chips and salsas and even though we didnt ask for it; they gave it to us anyways and then charged us for it. On top of that- they bragged about the salsa and how people had asked for them to sell it in a jar however after tasting it- I do not recommend selling it at a jar. Overall- good food, but not worth the price. Those cost is insane for Mexican. Go to Pinche Taqueria if you want good food and a good price.

My husband and I dined at Toloache the other night and had a wonderful time. The staff was warm, welcoming and very attentive. The food was delicious...I had the Carnitas de Lechon, my husband had the Pollo Toloache and we shared an order of cactus fries. It was all delicious! We also had the trio of guac which was quite filling but soooo tasty! We're very much looking forward to going back and using them for delivery. Too bad they can't deliver their margaritas because they were oh so tasty!

Terrific food. Pricey, small portions (unless you order the entrees, which are huge). This is definitely NOT your cheese-smothered, rice & beans, low-end Tex-Mex place. This is elegant, high-end Mexican at it's best, that you'd find at a high-end restaurant in big cities in Mexico. Very authentic flavors. Contrary to some of the other reviews, we got NO upsells. My only minor complaint is that I arrived before my husband, and it took a while to get service for just me - once he arrived the service improved dramatically, although I believe it was more due to the waiter not understanding that I didn't want to wait for my husband to order a drink & appetizers. Will DEFINITELY be patronizing this place often.
