The place is a good find in Tribeca, with an interesting drink menu and a cool looking interior. The food is good, though not cheap. The only annoying thing is the DJ, starting at 8pm: it makes the place much too noisy for conversation. But you can grab a Japanese comic book from the bar and start reading instead...

There's a genre of Japanese food thats probably not too familiar to New Yorkers yet, called "Youshoku". Literally translated, it means 'foreign food', and it includes dishes that were brought to Japan (such as pasta, steaks, and stews) and made popular with a twist, probably starting around a hundred years ago. Tokyo Bar has Youshoku down perfectly probably the most popular youshoku dish in Japan is omu-rice, and Tokyo Bar has their omu-rice down to perfection! I also enjoyed the mentaiko past, made with a bit more garlic than some other places, but not too over the top. They also had quite a few izakaya type dishes (familiar to those East Village connoisseurs), of which I havent tried yet. Drinks were a bit pricey, so I'd suggest going during happy hour (from 5-7). Atmosphere was great, service even better, I'd suggest going right away! Tokyo Bar is my new favorite Japanese restaurant!
