snooty and tiny portions
Miniscule portions, poor service, unfriendly, officious host/waiter do not compensate for nice atmosphere. Never again.

Was Hoping For More
I was at Tocqueville on Friday night with a nice group of family and friends for what we hoped would be an eventful meal; the food was OK in a lovely setting, but the service has serious shortcomings. It was not a busy evening for the restaurant; downstairs was maybe half full, though there was a party in the private dining room. We were warmly greeted at the door and seated at a nice table...drinks came promptly and the order was taken in good time but everything was messed up from then on out...the servers were putting the wrong dishes in the wrong places for both courses...the waiter was very friendly but seemed oblivious to our needs...the coup de grace was in the end after dessert orders were placed...it took half an hour for the desserts to come (and most of us had just ordered ice cream), coffee orders were confused and then, after four requests, the check finally came. They did bring us some extra desserts, but when we spoke with the maitre 'd about the slow service he said he thought we maybe wanted a leisurely dinner...very lame response. We don't plan on returning to lousy service with OK food for HIGH prices.

The Tocque of the town!
Although we only ordered a couple of appetizers and entrees along with cocktails we were treated like high class customers. No fancy bottles of wine or $95 tasting menus, the staffs was extremely warm and attentive. Besides our delicious meals (good sized portions I might add), we were treated to several gratus treats. Our server, made us feel as though we were regulars although it was our first time there. It certainly won't be our last!

surprised
yes, surprised to see so many bad reviews of tocqueville. i have eaten there several times, lunch and dinner, and always found the food creative and very good. the one thing i would agree with is that it is not the place to eat if you are in a hurry, but the wait staff were all courteous and professional. perhaps i do not mind somewhat small portions because i am trying to eat less!

How sad.
How sad. Was expecting a great experience from the food, ambiance, and service but it was not. The best part of the dining experience was meeting the lovely ladies at the table next to us and watching them getting their meal comped. But we also waited just as long for our meal and the restaurant did not comp our meal. The food was not that great and there was an odd combination of flavors. It felt like they were trying to come up with new combinations of flavors that didn't work. The service and staff were not great. Talk about slow... If you know a thing about restaurants, this is not the place to go.

This place has gone down hill
The food here used to be good, overrated, but at least good. Not so much anymore. Now the cooking is merely average, which would be okay, except that the entree portions of everything I have eaten there in the last year have to be under 5 ounces and the cost is upwards of $40 per plate. The appetizers, which now all seem to be in the $20 range, are all over conceived all underwhelming. The Wine list is outrageously marked up. Service is very poor. The left had not only doesn't know what the right hand is doing, it's giving the right hand the middle finger.
