Excellent, elegant, expensive
So refined. Easy on the eyes decor. A quiet, relaxed, restful atmosphere. Fine cuisine served by a solicitous staff. Considering its conservative nature, the restaurant is not stuffy and devoid of attitude. I would return with clients or to mark the right occasion.

Made our special occasion extra special!
Tocqueville was the perfect place for my birthday. Everything was wonderfully presented and the staff very gracious. We enjoyed the Greenmarket menu that features ingredients from the Union Square Market. The watermelon mojito was delicious and refreshing, a must have! I will return!

Valentine's Day menu is good value
$95 was a fair value and the portions were of good size, one of our best Valentine’s Day dinner in the past decade. Overall, I highly recommend Tocqueville; it’s an elegant restaurant that offers sophisticated ambiance and delicious meal. Attentive service. A very good choice for special occasions and romantic nights out.

Valentine's Day menu is bad value
I went there on Sunday for an early Valentine's Day dinner. Their prix-fixe menu was $95 for 3 courses, and that's the only option they had, even though on the phone they told me the a la carte menu would be available as well. The food was pretty good, and the service was great - but not $95 good. $95 breaks down to something like $30 appetizer, $45 main course, and $20 dessert? Completely insane!

definitely recommend it
I agree with the reviewer below who was surprised at the negative reviews. I have been to Tocqueville many times, for lunch and dinner, and have always found the staff courteous and professional, the food excellent and the ambiance elegant and comfortable.

Disappointed
Once the waiter realized we were only having the $59 prix fixe dinner his face fell -- and he rushed us, although the restaurant was empty at 6pm - have been to tocqueville many times for lunch --- the food is good, but it'll be a long time before i go there again.

Great Meal Near Union Square
Delicious, inventive food. Correct but friendly service. Elegant, relaxing room. Carte prices are appropriately upscale, but the prix fixe lunch and dinner are bargains. The online menus are outdated. The squash soup, guinea hen terrine, salmon, and brisket we had at a recent lunch were all excellent as were the breads and desserts.
