    i <3 this place.

Consistently amazing food. Great price. chill atmosphere. what more could you want in a restaurant? oh yeah... a good selection of beers (which they have as well). I usually get the "Danish Burger" which has a hefty helping of blue cheese folded into the ground meat before it's cooked. When I'm in the mood for something less heavy, I get the smoked salmon wrap with a salad (which can be substituted for fries for no extra charge). Almost everything on the menu is priced under 10 bucks aside from the entres section. If you're looking for great food (and good beers) for a fair price check this place out for sure!

    The worst service

I used to enjoy going there for brunch on a saturday. The last time I went was 8/17/08. As my girlfriend and I enter the resturat there where severally empty tables, the waitress wanted to put use in the worst table in the place, directly next to the kitchen, where it is loud form the cooking and pots and pans. I asked her if we could sit at another open table, she sat us down at a much pleaseing table. When she decided to take our order, I told her that I would like the goatcheese and toast (I have always order that for brunch), as I gave her that order, she just stood there as she had no idea what I was talking about, so I repeated to her in another way and then she was like, I know what it is, that is on our dinner menu (in as rude of a way it could be said). I told her the fact that I have always order that and Im sure the wont have a problem making it. I continued on with my order. Will each have a BLT, speaking for my gf. well as she stood there with her arms on her hips, I finished my order. She brought us one coffee when we ordered two, she brought us one sandwich when we order two. She had such an attitude. I do not recommend this place anymore. The serivce is the worst I have ever seen. Thumbs down all the way.

Good Beers, decent food, subpar staff!

It is by far the worst service I've ever received!! I used to go there a lot, because I live and work around the neighborhood. However, I decided that even though they have a great beer selection and decent food, their service is so unfriendly and hostile (especially towards larger groups) that I prefer to spend my money elsewhere!! If you decide to go, I hope that you have a much pleasant experience than I. That being said, the bartender is as friendly as it can get!

    Poor experience

Seems like Columbia students much prefer the illusion of a cool hang out, than a decent breakfast, and thanks to them the owners of this place are getting away with a lot. I had a well below average brunch here. My eggs arrived luke-warm, with greasy home fries and bad coffee. It was very noisy, the staff were pointedly uninterested in providing professional service. There was something idiotic about watching all the Ivy leagers stuffing themselves full of overpriced, bad food.

    Punch a Grandma...

Lets be honest people, somedays I crave the salmon sandwich so bad I would punch a Grandma for one. However deliously tasty the food is, the service leaves much to be desired. I think its ridiculous to leave water unfilled, take forty five minutes for food to come, and act like smiling is against store policy, then tack on a whopping 18% gratuity. Is it because you know you don't deserve the tip? Don't get me wrong I belong to the 20% tipping club, but I perfer to have my sir in service.Don't go if you're in a hurry, but if you have a few friends and some time to spare, go get some great grub that you'd punch a Grandma for.

Don't believe all the other reviews

The dearth of well-priced brunch options in this area - it's too far north of Columbia and the couple of places on Amsterdam Ave are always crowded and overpriced - has blinded the other reviewers to just how bad this place really is. I live upstairs and I have been duped too many times into hoping it would be good just because it's close. Twice I have walked in, been ignored by the totally rude, weird-looking staff for ages, been uninpsired by the menu, and ended up walking out. When I have eaten here, the food has been boring, overcooked, tasteless and, most memorably, greasy. And it's not even cheap. The space is ugly and uncomfortable and always overrun by students who obviously don't know a good sandwich from a crappy one. These people are so uninformed and uninspired by their breakfast options that the owners of Toast have been encouraged to open another branch at 105th Street with which to dupe locals around there. If you want so-so food around this neighborhood, just go to Floridita down the street where the eggs may not be great, but at least it's cheap and the staff are friendly. And they do a great cup of coffee.

Ideal bacon burger & scrumptious bites

The english muffin burger with bacon and cheese is a melty, meaty delight. Also love all the appetizers, brunches, and various entrees. Good beer on tap, totally unpretentious atmosphere... If I could live here, I wouldand I live a block away.
