I am over that place already. The portions got smaller as the prices got higher. There are other similar restaurants and buffets around the area with better value and good food.

Have eaten at Tina's (old Sophie's) many times and ordered many takeouts, however, I've noticed that the portions of the meals have lessened drastically, and now with prices higher, it certainly is not worth it at all. The service has gone down and it seems some of the workers show favoritism to customers. The person before me ordered almost the same and my order was so much less in portion she gave me one medium piece of grilled chicken and bits and pieces which looked like it was taken from someones leftover. I told her I did not want the scraps she put on my order I use to get two nice solid pieces of chicken before, now it seems they are filling up with scraps. Some of the workers seems snobish and aloof so not only has the food and value deteriorated, but the service as well. I will not go back there and will tell everyone I know not to go to this establishment.

I agree with the other posters. I went to Sophie's last week and ordered the spicy chicken with rice and plantains. The server gave me two small, flat pieces of chicken over a bed of rice and 4 small plaintain discs. I asked for more food and she brusquely told me it would cost extra. The place is a complete ripoff, for over $10. They could have given me more meat, more plantains, or at the very least more rice. It would have cost them pennies, instead, I will NEVER go back to Sophie's.

I am a Miami-born Cuban, born and raised in a Spanish-speaking Cuban household on cuban coffee and 'arroz con pollo' so I know my Cuban food, and Sophie's is great. The lechon (pork) and platanos (plantains) are excellent; I get the pork with double platains and the portion size is great, especially for the price. As for the reviewer who complained about the service at the to-go counter, it's a fast-moving cafeteria-style lunch counter, what do you expect? The lines are long, and they're there to simply serve your food and move on to the next customer. They're not waiters. That being said, they were not at all rude, and very friendly to me, so I'm not sure those comments are too accurate, anyway. All in all, it's a great place to get take-out lunch Cuban food.

I guess whom ever Sophie is/was maybe she was a nice person...however the people that she has working at the Maidson Ave franchise are really giving her a bad name. I went in today to order an entree for take-out, and between the people serving the food to the cashier were the rudiest people i have ever encountered! Oh and please dont say "excuse me" as like i didnt understand what you just asked me...because before you know it, they are banging your food around and literally throwing it into take-out containers...was a loyal customer at the Lexington Ave Sophies that had to be closed down because of the Con Ed pipe explosion....but i will never again spend my money on any Sophies food after this experience.

If you want to eat rice, order from Sophie's, That's about all you will get. You want Platanos as a side with your meal of Ropa Vieja, 3 pieces of meat, the rest vegetables, you will only get 3 pieces. Confirmed this with the receptionist, really she confirmed this! I cannot believe that I am the first to make a complaint about portions. The receptionst was incredulous at my complaint. Maybe those of you who go to the restaurant may get more food, but when you order out, your expectations are that you will get a mound of food. Think again, not here! 3 pieces of platanos, come on! I had to cut everything to little pieces to make believe you have a full meal. I ordered food for my co-workers as a thank you. One order was for baked chicken, rice and salad. well no rice came, the salad consisted of lettuce, 1 thinly sliced piece of tomato, 1 thin slice of cucumber, 2 strips of cooked carrots and 2 strips of cooked potato. Wow what a salad! Order red beans, get black beans. Harsh is not out of place in this review. The food was very tasty but you have got to be kidding on the portions. You cannot charge $8.00 for rice. Rice is the side, not the meat!
