The overpriced grilled cheese was good, but the service was terrible and then they had the nerve to add a mandatory 20% gratuity on top of our bill (for a party of 3!). When we asked about it, we were given a number of different excuses, including: (1) It's a Friday night, (2) We had bottle service (referring to a bottle of wine we got), (3) It's not a restaurant, it's a club, (4) This is standard practice...and on and on. Meanwhile, the place was virtually empty, yet the service was rude, very slow and inattentive. Not worth it.

Why people come back to this place is beyond me. Pushy doormen, negligent waitress, downright rude manager. Food was decent, the atmosphere wonderful, but (hyperbole aside) the service was the worst i've ever experienced.

Staff was extremely unfriendly, as though it was a privilege to eat "gourmet grilled cheese". There is really nothing on the menu. They serve mac and cheese in a cup, soup in a glass. Over the years I've been to countless pretentious wanna be 5 star soul food restaurants. If people want fine dining, they don't go out for soul food, especially not ostentatious grilled cheese.

My date and I stumbled upon Tillmans a few days ago. This place is awesome, the food, the decor, the music, and even the drinks. But most important, the strawberry short cake is to die for. I recommend this place, whether a date or just hanging with the friends.

i've never heard of a restaurant where you have to check your coat. i never check my coat, in part, because i'm far more likely to loose that ticket that loose my jacket. the menu is limited, the staff (particularly the male manager) is high-strung, bordering on rude. $15 for grilled cheese - good but overpriced comfort food.

Although we had a great grilled cheese sandwich and chips, the steak sandwich was only ok. The staff could not have been worse. We were apparently evaluated as not-cool-enough for the place and even though it was 6:00 on a Saturday night we were relegated to a certain table. We were told that "most of the other tables were reserved and would be full soon." Naturally, by the time we left there were only 4 other people in the entire place. The waitress made us feel that we weren't worth her bother and her attitude screamed "I want to be waiting on George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, or someone else who could help me with my acting career." If this place wants to make dining part of their business model, and clearly they do, then they should improve service and get an attitude adjustment quickly.

I was approached by the Maitre'D who obnoxiously and rudely offered we move to another table because champagne was not considered a bottle. Seriously? This was offered after appetizers were ordered and the waitress, who was great by the way, took our drink order. I was insulted by the level of cutomer service and saddened because the food was acutally good and the music was great...I won't be back however because even when I called to complain to the manager he refused to take full responsibility for incomplete customer service. I'm tired of half-way managers running establishments in almost decent locations and getting away with it because people do not complain, mediocrity is not an option.
