Go for the view, food is ok

Just like the other reviews say, the FOOD IS OK but not impressive, SERVICE is not great, but the ATMOSPHERE is nice (though in the afternoon u see boats carrying loads of garbage passing in front of the restaurant lol). I went for winter restaurant week and had the sea-crab soup which was good but a little spicy. The grilled mahi mahi needed salt and was loaded with olive oil. My sister got the seasonal vegetables for appetizer and it was huge! good seasoning, but just a bit salty. Her chicken was pretty dry. For dessert, I had the coconut panna cotta in the mango dressing and was really good. My sister's chocolate cake looked dry and overpowering. My dad actually got the $34 lobster pri fix and got a pretty good lobster bisque, a whole lobster for entree and a berry sorbet. Portions are pretty good. Plus the warm bread they serve at the beginning is really good! Contrary to my previous experiences in fancy restaurants, I actually got full this time. Overall pretty good experience, but not so impressed with the food. Oh, and just so u know, they added a 20% tip for a party of 5.

    English please

I took my wife and daughter to the Water Club recently for dinner for out first time. I COULD NOT understand a word the waiter said to me.(or the food waiter.Only the bus boy spoke coherently, who was very nice but didn't know the menu) Ordering felt like a shot in the dark, and when I asked him to repeat himself, he became rude...as if I was asking something that was beneath him. The nerve of me! Wait...I'm paying for this treatment? The food was pretty good, and amazingly our order came correctly but for the money we paid for the meal and the confusing, and tense service....we will not be going back. Hire some English speaking staff. Isn't The Water Club "American" Cuisine? Even at Chinese restaurants, the staff can speak English for gods sake

    Poor Service

I went there on my daughter's birthday. The view of the river is excellent, food is good and the bread was great, but when we asked for more bread the bus boy replies with "You still have some left" I found that to be a bit on the rude side. If I'm paying for my food, I think I should get what I ask for. Menu we were given did not list any drinks. When I asked the waiter what drinks they have? His reply was, "What do you mean? We have regular drinks?" Somebody please tell him what drinks they have.

    my favorite New York restaurant

Everything here is perfect. The food is always excellent. I've eaten here many times with many friends and there has never been a disappointing meal. The warm bread is a wonderful addition, fish is first-rate. The tables are set wide apart and with the touch of soft piano music coming from the next room, conversations are always possible. All this and a fantastic view of the river!!

    Great Place, Poor Food

The location of this place is great, the atmosphere is nice, the service is fine, but I would never go back there again unless they change their chef! I went during restaurant week summer 2007 with some friends, and we had the same opinion --> The entire 3-course meal was disappointing! the soup was too seasoned, too salty; the grilled chicken was too dry; the grilled salmon had weird flavoring/sauce, the chocolate cake at the end was the best part of the meal, but it got overwhelmingly sweet after the second bite. So, no. I will not go back there unless they change the chef

    Nice place

Food was very good. All appetizers, main dishes and desserts were excellant. Nice portions and good service. View of east river is nice. A little expensive, but what isn't. To get a taxi you usually have to wait until someone is dropped off there. Highly Recommended.

    Get out much?

If yes, you're not likely to wind up at this place, but i guess that's beside the point. I ended up here at the invitation of some out of town guests, after trying unsuccessfully to offer up a few alternate options. My expectation of the Water Club was met in every way; the restaurant was thoroughly mediocre from first to last. I expected banquet food, and the Water Club delivered in spades. The food and service are lacking refinement at a $30+ per plate price point, and the hokey nautically-themed decor speaks for itself. I'd like to comment more specifically about the food, but I'm at a loss. It's like trying to comment on qualities of the color beige... there's just not a lot to say about beige, y'know? But then, I guess that might be the whole point.
