    great service and okay food

I was there tonight and it was okay... The food was only okay, and it felt like a bit of a tourist trap.

    Don't Get Your Hopes Up

I went here last night for my birthday. Food was good - portions somewhat small, but the service was another story. We were never asked intermittently if we needed anything - we had 4 or 5 different waiters - from drinks, to dinner and dessert a different person came over everytime. They had at least 10 waiters for about 40 tables so it shouldn't have been an issue. The maitre de came by once to refill our drinks, which he shouldn't have. They don't leave a bread basket on the table someone comes over and places 1 roll per person and then trying to get that person to come back around while waiting 30 min for your appetizers is another story. Best Bet - go upstairs to the Crow's Nest - you get the view - you can have a light snack and they are much more customer-oriented.

    Absolutely Stunning

I took my mom here for the Lobster Lunch special. We asked the waiter if the stuffed lobster was extra or included and he said yes, so we just ordered without stuffing. After our delicious lobster bisque came, he said he thought that there was a miscommunication so he brought me and my mom a full crabcake as the stuffing, along with our lobsters, that they took out of the shell for us. We also received 2 large orders of mashed potatoes. It was my moms birthday, so they brought her an extravagent chocolate cake dessert along with our fruit sorbet. All for the mere $34 each person. It was so much food that we each made 2 meals out of it, and the quality and taste was delicious. I took her to several well-known nyc restaurants, and she thought the Water Club was by far the best. Service was impeccable. I highly recommend it!

    Large group for resturant week

Six of my friends and I went here for resturant week and i have mixed reviews. The place is lovely and keeps many of the old NY charm that many places have dropped. The head waiter sat us on time for our 8:30 reservation. We all got the resturant week menu- I had the chilled crab leek soup (they didn't sort the crab enough and my bites of crab had shell in them), salmon with a pesto and corn sauce- very good- plus the berry pudding dessert. The berries for the dessert were excellent but the pudding was an English pudding (ie a mix between a short cake and a corn bread) and was over flowing with candied oranges- nice for winter but wtf, its summer. My friends had the salad and died for the polenta cruetons. I tried my friends lamb (kind of an odd choice for a sea food resturant to put on their RW menu) and it was good. It was served with standard Albanian cucumber yogurt sauce (sheep yogurt, cucumber, garlic, olive oil) and I think potatoes as the veggie side. The other dessert was something made of chocolate. All good quality food and they kept refilling the mixed bread basket even when we moved on to dessert. The only real mare to the evening was trying to get a cab out of the place.

    Fantastic Restaurant Week dinner!

This was a unique dining experience. It's such a nice change of pace in NYC to look out the window and see water! The food was fantastic. I had the greens salad and the pulled lamb. The portions were larger than other restaurants of the same price. The wait staff was very attentive, but didn't rush me and my friend, and we were there a while. Great dinner!

    unpleasant experience

Went for summer rest week 2008 and everything about the experience was subpar. Called ahead for vegetarian options and was assured they would substitute a dish. Upon arrival, they disputed that and only offered to give two appetizers for the meal (which, if ordered separately, would have been cheaper than the restaurant week price). Ordered off the menu, and my boyfriend ordered the rest. week menu. Every dish we had was upsetting. The salads were bitter and tasteless (only good part was the polenta croutons), creamed spinach was tasteless, and my boyfriends meal was equally poor. Waiters were mean, rude, and inattentive. The place is difficult to get to and overall the experience was one of the worst in any NYC restaurant I have ever been to.

    Poor experience

Partner and I came here for rest. week, they did not list the menu online, when we arrived the choices were not good so we choose off the regular menu. When we questioned our waiter about the rest. week offerings we were gruffly told "no substitutions" and he walked away even though we were ready to order. 15 mins. later he returned to take our order but we never saw him again for the rest of the night. We got the feeling that the waiter had decided we were only there for rest. week and that we would never be spending a lot of money with him thus he wouldn't spend any more time with us. The drinks server was the most attentive person to us and was the only reason we stayed instead of getting up and walking out. Crispy calimari was a pretty good appetizer, red snapper entree was OK, nothing special. The scallops looked really good but each bite was full of sand as they didn't wash them properly. The decor is very nautical (as expected) but fun and the view is OK if you enjoy looking at Long Island City. It's not very easy to get to either as we had to direct the cab driver how to get onto the access road beside the FDR. Overall we were disappointed and will not be coming back. We had high hopes for this place but the waiter's service simply ruined the experience.
