Chicken club is the same
The previous reviewer said the chef changed the chicken club , not true i eat the club five days a week and it is exactly the same. The sweet potatoe fries have been on the menu before the chef came and have always been just okay. Just upset that the french dip is gone get over it. The food is awesome now that the new chef is there. Alot healthier and big portions.

New Chef = New Menu = Bad News
No more French Dip!! I think that says enough. Somehow since the last time I've been there, they have a new chef who changed the menu and cut out the fabulous Volstead classics we all knew and loved. Granted, the food was decent for the prices and the atomosphere is great for a date scene...but the Chicken Club sandwich and fries that I tried did not compare to the old dishes. They have sweet potato fries now, which I was excited about, but they have some weird spice to them..maybe curry or tumeric or something- i couldn't tell. I was not a fan, but my friend liked them. Sorry Volstead, but unless you bring back the French Dip, I won't be returning here again.

Great lunch spot
This is a great Midtown East lunch spot. Food was great and service was prompt. Highly recommend.

Nice restaurant close to MOMA
My wife and I dined there last Friday after a night at MOMA. Based on other reviews, I tried the steak frittes which was very good. My wife tried the fish tacos and hummus. The tacos were small, but tasty. I thought it was going to be a stodgy bar atmosphere, but it was much more hip than I expected. Fun scene, and we enjoyed the loud music, but I can see that others would find it too loud. We tried some of their happy hour drink specials that had silly names, but were tasty. We'd definitely go back.

Service was fine, food great
Had dinner on MLK day, so the place was pretty empty. Service was fine for us on this night. The steak frites were truly outstanding. The beef, tho skirt steak, was more tender than some filets I have had, done perfectly to order, and the frites were as good as any I've had in Montreal. Would certainly return.

Do not recommend due to poor service
Because of the good reviews this restaurant received on menupages.com, I wanted to try it. When I went there with a relative, no one greeted us at the door. We asked an employee for a table and she replied that we can sit anywhere except at the reserved tables. All the tables were reserved. The employee made no effort to find us a table. My relative and I decided to go to the bar to order; however, no one came over to take our order. But, when a group of girls came to the bar, someone was there to assist them. My relative and I left. We did not get a chance to taste the food; so, I can't rate the food quality. However, the service was not good at all. I will not go to this restaurant again. My overall impression is that they cater to people in groups and maybe certain people.

Great for lunch or happy hour!
I have been to The Volstead twice: the first time for after-work drinks and the second for lunch. The drinks were a little pricy and the place was very trendy, and it was fun. Then a few months later I came for lunch and was blown away. It was a cold day, and my boyfriend and I each got different hot sandwiches. They were perfect! BIG, comforting, but healthful - not fatty or salty, just fresh ingredients. I got the roast turkey melt and my bf had the blackened salmon sandwich. We both normally love to share, but didn't this time bc we each loved our own so much!
