Fabulous view not so good food

View was exceptional. Nice ambience. Friendly Hostess and waiters. Good service. The food was mediocre except for the dessert which was excellent. The food was over priced for what it was but you have to realize you're paying for the whole package. The wine list was extensive but was missing some very good Central Coast wines of California. The wine buyer needs to make a trip to the Santa Ynez Valley near Santa Barbara and do some research and wine tasting. I was shocked to see Maridian wine on the wine list for something like $60. In California it retails at the supermarket for $5 . This gives a bad impression of California Central Coast wines. Next time I go to the View, I'll just have coctails and enjoy the view.

    Poor Service!

Let's just say that the only thing that was excellent was the "view". The service was the lousy. It took 2.5 hours to get our dinner, and then the waitress never came back to check on us. She finally came back only to ask us if we were waiting for dessert which was part of the package. The food wasn't worth the cost.

    A different experience

Ate here twice - November 2004 and April 2005. November was good apart from a slight mix up over my meal but it was soon rectified and I was served the correct dish, which was the very nice striped sea bass. Excellent views of New York. It was my friend's birthday so the restaurant obliged with extra dessert in the form of mini sorbets. They serve a killer Irish Coffee too! Service was OK as well. April was a different experience - the restaurant was quieter (a Sunday evening) and to be honest the staff spoiled it with their incessant asking was everything OK - it would have been much better if they had stayed in the background - they were just too in your face for my liking. Also do not fall for them adding their 18% tip to your bill as I did it cost me $27! (I'm not used to tipping quite that much where I come from). They were pushy as well about side orders and I should have resisted that too, because that over filled me - the standard portions were just right and did not need extras. The food was was fine and nicely presented, but at the end of the day I think that really you come here for the view which was fantastic especially if you come when it is still daylight and night falls while you are dining.

    U gotta see the view

Perfect date place and/or small group. Not for kids. This rating is for the VIEW restaurant, NOT the buffet or lounge. Service was great, food was very good. Pricey but you are paying for a 360 view of Manhattan, its one of a kind; different from Rainbow Room or RockCenter Grille. I loved it and I'm from New York. Nice to do something different. Loved the napkins that show you which building/are u are seeing, as you are turning. Need to improve the downstairs elevator system regarding directions to the restaurant. We thought we had to wait on line but u don't. Would recommend for a date, special night out etc. Fun to do.

    Great Food

This restaurant recently re opened after a major renovation. The kitchen really takes care to make sure everything is well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I'll definitley be back, but it's always soooo crowded.

How often can you eat while you rotate?

A little touristy and Marriotsy but you gotta give props to.. yes, the view. Pretty cool and it rotates which you can't say about many New York restaurants. Food was good. All in all, not regrettable.

    Good View

I would go back for the view. The food was standard - I would skip the seafood next time and stick with their steak or osso bucco. The service could improve. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself was lacking -it could use a little renovation. However, we had people from out of town and they loved the view. I would recommend going for drinks or opting for the buffet for an informal evening with a great view of the city. The say no jeans but half the restaurant had them on.
