Lost a little Sparkle
I first went to this restaurant in 2003, on a trip with 3 friends. We had wanted to experience it after hearing great reviews! We were not disappointed. So when I went back to New York, this time with Family, I booked up before we left the UK. This time the shine had worn off! The menu was not as extensive as I remembered. It was very over priced. We were given a drinks menu we were just offered cocktails. The waiter was nice enough but was busy with quite a few tables. The Dress code of Business Casual was not strictly applied and we were not that impressed that we had dressed up but the table next to us were in jeans ,T-shirts and trainers! The decor was alittle shabby and my sisters chair even had a rip in it! The view was the novelty for the rest of the party but that was it! For my money just stick to a couple of drinks in the bar, by then an hour will have gone by and you will have experienced the view! (Which by the way involves 15 minutes of looking at the office block next door).

The View is the Perk here
The view and the atmosphere here were the only good things about this restaurant. The food and the service was both substandard. It is very unlikely that I'll be dining at this restaurant again.

Not impressed
The view is very nice, but that's about all. This restaurant is very expensive and does not come close to its counterparts. They allow jackets and coats to be draped over the backs of chairs so that they drag on the floor (I of course chose to check mine). While they have a dress code, it is not enforced. Cargo pants, tank tops and t-shirts were all worn by various guests. I made a reservation for 4 near a window in advance, I did not get a window. Of the four dinners, the veal and the NY Strip were full of fat. The filet mignon and the seafood pasta were pretty good. This restaurant is clearly a tourist attraction or for those who don't know what their money can buy.

For Tourists
A nice restaurant that revolves once per hour giving a unique view of the city and the Hudson river. The posted dinner time was 5:30, but it was actually 6:30, so we had a limited menu to choose from. I could not finish my Osso Buco as the portion was very large. A nice restaurant to try once.

Excellent experience at The View!
I was at The View about 8 years ago and had a terrific dining experience. I was a little worried to try it again after reading the negative reviews... however our meal last night was fabulous! We arrived at 6 for a 6:30 reservation... the staff let us take a seat and order wine while waiting for the rest of our party, and gave us the option of the pre-theater (served til 6:30) or regular menu. We chose the regular prix-fixe menu, which included appetizer, entree & dessert. All portions were very large and very good! It was my dad's birthday and the staff made sure he had a great time. Only complaint is that the chocolate lava cake was not served warm. They apologized many times for this. View is really spectacular and makes it a truly unique dining experience. Definitely would return!
