    Rubin Rocks!

This is one of my favorite places in the city. I went in by accident with a friend & sat at the bar. We wanted to try something new and the bartender was more than accommodating. He asked us what we liked in a drink and proceeded to make his masterpieces. We still dream of his drinks and the nice food and quick service. Highly recommended, I'm going again tonight.

    Great Food with A Smile

My girlfriends and I were looking for an easy place to go for dinner and walked in. They raved about it but I wasn't so sure. Looking at it from the sidewalk, it seemed pretentious. I was so wrong about that. We were seated right away and given sparkling and flat water. We ordered drinks and apps which came before we even looked at the menu. After we ordered, the staff was attentive but didn't hover. Just a few nice chats with our waitress who was so sweet or a busser trying to clear room on the table - lots of plates of tasting yummy goodies like the fried calamari and pot of mussels, bowls of fries. Such good bistro fare without the snobiness. My friends go there a lot and always rave about the service and the great food. A real treat!

    If this is the norm...

My girlfriend and arrived at 7:30 Friday night with ticket to a show at 9:30 over in Union Square. We gave our names and we told that it would be about 10 minutes. Our wait stretched to over 30 minutes (as ometimes happens in busy places on Friday night). By the time we were seated we were debating slipping out and getting slices so we could make the show. Jut as we decided to leave, one of the hosts came to seat us. At first we told him we had to go to make our show, to which his answer was, "As long as you don't order anything well done, I can get you in and out in 45minutes." We said ok, being hungry and wanting to eat there in the first place. From then on our experience was amazing. Our waiter came right over and ot us wine and water, took our order five minutes later and promised to have the kitchen rush our order (Rare Hangar Steak and Tuna Nicoise Salad, both amazing!) As per promise we made the show with time to spare. We are just two 25year old kids who live in the neighborhood, we don't dress nice and we aren't trust funders who expect hand and foot service. We got it at The Smith, along with fantastic food. If you haven't gone yet, go.

    yummy yummy

My friend and I literally stumbled into this place last night after many "happy hours" and were pleasantly surprised!! We were expecting a quick snack and obviously didn't have a res. They sat us in a cozy-but-not-small corner booth right away. We split a carafe of white wine (as if we needed it!) and had the Mushroom ravioli and mussles. Everything was delicious! I wanted to lick the plate of ravioli it was so good-I maintained my restraint. The service was quick and pleasant. The place was packed and the vibe/music made us want to stay and hang out. I seriously may go back tonight. Love love love.

    Can't wait to go back!

Went to the Smith with my wife on Friday night..and loved it. Nice vibe, packed, 3 deep at the bar, but "good noisy". Service was exceptional. Waiter asked us if we had been there before..when we said no..gave us a very detailed rundown of the menu and answered all our questions. Nice, well priced beer/wine [select]ion. I'd call the menu "fusion comfort food", with plenty of choices. Except for one of the steaks, and I think one or 2 other items, all entrees are in the $13-$18 range. My wife had a steak, I had the short ribs, the brussel sprouts were amazing..if you can believe it..and we finished off the meal with a hot fudge sundae. Next time I want to try the hot potatoe chips/blue cheese fondue..it looked amazing.

    Nice Dinner

The place has a cool decor. We were lucky to get a booth and it was really comfortable for four people. Waiter was very nice and patient. I had two of their muddler drinks - The Ginger Smash which was really refresing and sweet. It had bits of pineapple and ginger in it. A the Loco Cucumber and it was refreshing too like a cucumber. We had the Mac and Cheese as an App and it was delicious. Very creamy inside, but with a crunchy top. I would go back for that in a minute.. Then I had the Tuna Tartare,, They didn't try to reinvent the wheel with this one, but it was tasty and had a vinegar taste to it. I had the Lamb Schnitzel.. which actually tasted like a fried piece of Veal Cutlet. It was okay, but the mashed potatoes underneath were yummy. Very buttery and creamy, but they left some chunks of potatoe, which I like. I tried my friend's Short Rib and it was delicious. I wished I had ordered that. The mussels looked good too. They looked fresh and no fishy smell. Can't really ask for more that that with mussels.. My friend who is on a no-carb diet, had to dip the bread. Oh and the french bread on the table is delicious too. And the butter is room temperature, so you can spread it. Nice touch. We all dessert, but I was so stuffed, I should't have order the peanut butter ice cream. That was tooooo much. But cute spot, nice waiters and nice mixed crowd of people.
