    Not recommended

I have no idea how this place has 4 stars... I am assuming because the reviews on here are so old that this used to be good. I have lived in NYC for 4 years and have never had a poorer meal. I went with my gf to wingman my roommate on a blind-date and it was an awful experience (for all 4 of us). Both me and my gf (who eat out about 2 times a week and hardly ever complain) thought the food was unedible. When I first was served my 'salmon' dinner, it was so raw, it was still cold on the inside. They took it back to heat it up and when I took a bite, it tasted horrid. The other 3 people has similar complaints to keep it short. I worked as a chef for 4 years so I never send food back... it was amazing. After spending $100 per person, I do not recommend this to anyone.

    Great!

We had lunch at the Sea Grill before a show on Novemeber 29, 2008. Since the trip was a gift to my family for Christmas, I was thrilled that lunch turned out perfect. The food was great as was the service, I couldn't have wanted anything more. It was pricey for lunch but I knew that when I made the reservation. We sat by the window and watched the skaters during lunch. A great treat for us all!

    Disappointed with the service

This was my second attempt at The Sea Grill and I was truly disappointed. The service was really poor. We were seated and then asked to move twice to another table. I refused because I was comfortable where we were seated the second time. The menus and utentils were not on the table. Our food was practically thrown on the table. The iced tea did not taste good at all. The Tamarind fish was delish, but the pork chops were subpar. I love the atmosphere, it's warm and cozy. Not sure if I will return. Service plays a big part in my dining.

    Met expectations

We had 7:15 ressies and showed up at 6:45 to grab a drink at the bar. The maitre'd instead very courteously and quickly seated us immediately. This might have been a mistake on my part because we ended up almost as far away from the window as possible. We could still see the skating rink, but our view of Prometheus was totally blocked. My wife was still happy reasoning that window-side seats might have been colder and it still was a good atmosphere. Service from both the waiter at the wine sommelier was very good. Food was good. Two weeks later as I write this I don't remember what I had, but my wife had probably the best scallops we have have ever enjoyed. The bill meet expectations - as in I knew it would be on the expensive side. I would definately send a friend, though on my next trip I am looking forward to checking out less high profile restaurants.

    Disappointment at the Holidays

My friends & I had reservations for 12/1 at the Sea Grill. My one friend is from Pittsburgh and wanted to see the skaters so I made reservations. To begin with, the host first entering the restaurant was rude. We were forced to leave our coats at the coat check which we didn’t wish to do. The menu from I believe 11/23 to Jan 1 or 2 is a special menu. They say it ranges from $88-98 but we only saw the $98 version. All 3 of us are not afraid to pay for a good meal in a nice place but this was not worth the money. Our total bill came to $396.00. The amount of food received for that price is a joke. I think they are taking advantage of the holiday season with all the tourists which is very unfortunate. We had the sea grill chowder, crab cakes (only came with potato chips) and dessert (poor selection). Your wine or other drinks were not included. The crab cakes were good, all crab and no filler. My one friend had 3 raw oysters at 3.50 each which additional to the $98 price. We arrived at 5pm but by 6:15 hadn’t received our main meal and needed to get a bus at 6:45 out of the city. It seemed everyone else got served quicker than we did which I didn’t understand. When you review the regular menu, the items we had would have totaled $64.00 so a bit of a increase for the holiday season and nothing more being given. We had to have our desserts to go, pumpkin cheesecake (thanksgiving is over) and key lime pie were our choices. The cheesecake was 2 bites, so tiny and the key lime pie was a bit larger. We were to also have ice cream with them but since we had to have them to go, no ice cream. I just felt the need to warn those for this holiday season to be prepared, make sure you have lots of time for the dinner and don’t expect to receive a lot for dollar. I would never go again during the holiday season, we could have gone many other places that would have been much better in the city. At least we did get to see the skaters and one marriage proposal.

    Unpleasant experience

My husband and I ate at the Sea Grill for Thanksgiving. We had the poorest service imaginable. We were seated and ignored for the first 10 minutes we were there-we couldn't even get our water glasses filled. Our waitress told us after we complained that she had a bigger table and that's why we didn't see her. The food was fair but several items we ordered did not appear on the table as they were described on the menu. We also had to wait an eternity between each course. We mentioned this to the host as we were leaving and he did not seem to care in the slightest. The most surprising thing is that we ate there last year for Thanksgiving too and had wonderful service and food. We had hoped to make it a yearly tradition. Too bad.

    huh?

I was really looking forward to going after reading such great reviews....... unfortunately, it turned out being a disappointment. the dishes (regardless of price) are not great (aji ga kosugiru) and the portions are small. I had the branzino, which I enjoyed. The risotto? It would feed a 1 year old. I can't imagine myself ever going back.
