The Red Flame

I know what you'll say - why would I eat in tourist central. But usually a diner is a safe go-to. But everything here was awful. Even the coffee, which should be drinkable if not better than average, tasted like it was two days old. The pancakes were burnt and the Greek salad came undressed without oregano, and was served with balsamic vinegar. The only reason this place could still be in business is that tourists are unknowing. Go anywhere else.

My wife and I were in the Times Square area for 4 days and we ate breakfast here 2 mornings. The service was excellent and the food was very good. Very clean and an exceptional breakfast. I would recommend!

My wife, myself and my daughter had breakfast pretty well everday on the week of October 8-12 and I have to say we were very happy with them. We were in new york from Prince Edward Island Canada for a short vacation and just stayed up the street from your establishment. If ever back we will certainly visit you.

My dad (a midtown resident) ate at this diner 4 times a week for approx 52 years. I've been going for 45 years. I've never experienced rude waitstaff. There have been a few times I've ordered something I didn't like (veggie burger) but all in all the food is good, plentiful and served quickly. Menu is extensive so you're bound to find something to order. The most I've waited for a table was 10 minutes during the crowded NY Christmas season. I will admit some of the menu items are overpriced for the place being a diner; but, the majority of the menu is on par price-wise with its' location in midtown NYC. If you are looking for fine dining, gourmet food, and grand atmosphere, this establishment is not for you. It's a solid coffee house in the heart of midtown with average decor, diner fare, hardworking staff and gracious management.

I can't recommend this diner highly enough. Food's cheap and service is MEGA fast. Worth a detour, it's an authentic, fun place.
