    Loved it

Terrific place for a casual dinner. Food is delicious. Service is attentive and unobtrusive. Wine list has plenty of choices for every taste and budget. Highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood.

    A Chelsea Classic that Rocks

I have been comming to RED CAT for over 10 years since Ive lived in west Chelsea and It's still the best "nice casual" place around - food is always great - the crowd is nice and hip and amazing desserts... it's in my TOP 5 favorite restaurants in all of Manhattan !!! BRAVO....

    Disappointing, Average at Best

After reading excellent reviews and living in the neighborhood, I was hoping for a special meal. Chicken and apple/pear crisp was lacking any taste. Service and atmosphere is nice - but food is not worth the price.

Went here for the first time this weekend and absolutely loved it. The restaurant space is great, airy and not too noisy. The menu is varied enough that everyone will find a favorite. The appetizers were creative and delicious. Try to the scallops over the green pea puree. The main dishes were also terrific. Try the pork chop, which was gigantic and could be shared by two. This place should be charing 15-20% more, as it stands, I think it is unmatched value for the quality and creativity of the food. Also, the wine list is fairly large and has at least 30 bottles in the $30-50 range which is rare these days. Service left a little to be desired, but that seems to be the norm everywhere these days.

    Wonderful dining experience

My wife, step-daughter and I live in Scotland and we were on holiday last week in New York. We visited this restaurant on a Tuesday night around 6.30pm. I was glad to have reserved a table as the place was full. We were allocated a really good table on the mezzanine floor about three-quarters of the way down the restaurant. This allowed us to have a good view of the entire restaurant and bar area. The restaurant had a wonderful buzz to it. It was busy, but the noise generated was not too loud. The food was excellent. Our favourite appetizer was the zucchini which is not common in restaurants back home, and it was good for sharing. In appearance it looks like a large plate of chopped cucumber, but is delicious when tasted. The bass was our favourite entrée which was moist and not over cooked. For dessert the chocolate bread pudding was light and fluffy. For drinks my wife and I had a decent bottle of syrah. My step-daughter prefers white wine and the waiter was extremely helpful in enabling her to choose a wine that was available by the glass. There was a large number of staff working on the night of our meal. The service was superb with no hint of attitude. The waiters were attentive but not intrusive. Overall this was a wonderful dining experience.

    Very Enjoyable

Went on a Saturday night. It was crowded, but we were seated right on time. Had the tuna and rabbit appetizers, the tuna was good, the rabbit wasn't my favorite, a little gamey. But the entrees were great. I had the duck, and can say without a doubt that it was the best I've ever eaten. Others at the table ordered skate, chicken, cod, and the pork chop. I tasted them all, and everything but the pork chop, which was a bit over-cooked, was very good. We ended the meal with expresso and a rum sundae. The expresso was perfect, but the alcohol in the sundae was too overpowering. Throughout the night our waiter was helpful, recommending a delicious wine, and the duck entree which I must say again, is so good. I thought the entire experience was much better than average.

    Overall, Pretty Good

Although we had made reservations and were on time, we had to wait for about 10/15 minutes. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying because the bar was packed. Our waiter was alright, nothing extraordinary. The lobster and potato chip salad appetizer was definitely the highlight of the meal - generous chunks of meat! The salmon was a little rare for my taste (I had asked for medium), but still tasty. The steak was also pretty good. Although it was incredibly noisy, the atmosphere was still chill and relaxed.
