I tried the new Rail Line but after I placed my order I found out that it was the same old Moonstruck with a different name and renovations. The food is overpriced, dry and on occasion cold. The only thing good there is their Yankee Bean soup. The only problem with that is that their "large" is small (for $6.95) and their "small" is tiny. I guess since they have renovated their restaurant that we the customers have to pay for it.

I've always loved moonstruck and I'm going back 10 years of eating here. I ordered the Romanian steak with two stuffed shrimp mash and string beans every item was cold except the gravy on the side and I literally live across the street. So 30 bucks later I had a cold and bland meal

For monthe we waited patiently for this well known neighberhood diner to be renovated & reopen . Finally it has, & although prices are higher, we were not dissapointed! The 'deco' decore in muted shades of melon / orange iu lovely, as is the newly redesigned space giving the room a more open feeling. They even have new dishes & flatware, etc which is a nice touch. The portions are quite large. The quality of the food is much better then previous. I don't mind paying more in this case & to have left overs for a second meal is an added plus. On the "Early Bird" menu they now serve soup AND saled included with the meal instead of just one of the two as it was on the old menu. Wait staff was attentive & eager to please. I hope all this continues and is not a 'come on' to get people in. All in all is was a very good dining experiance and I will be back when I am in the area. Still wish they'd bring back the "Early Bird" menu on the weekends & serve 'noshies' such as cole slaw, picklet beets and the like as they do in the Brooklyn diners. But then again, I have not found a diner in Manhatten that does.

Moonstruck @ 23 & 9th is many things! But customer may not "feel the love" when it comes to tweaking an order. The manager has zero tolerance for appeasing even a regular customers whims...Waiters seem afraid to make any exceptions you can almost smell the fear when it comes to even slight tweakings of what is on the menu as it is strictly written! I know I know folks may say but that is why there is a menu in the first place True but I have been to places where a waiter at the very least feels comfortable enough to make minor amendments to an order adjust the price without making you pay for 2 items and no great sin. Here you mention to a waiter that you might likesay 2 scoops of ice cream instead of the 1 scoop of a la mode? It's a if you are asking him to slap his grandmother...a glassy look comes over his eyes...his friendly demeanor suddenly seems amiss. I mean THAT is what it appears will happen if these waiters dare to make the slightest amendment to an order where several other NORMAL diner establishments do that bend over backward to serve thing as if they want you to come back. Here at good ol Moonstruck well...your patronage is not that big of an issue!

I've been eating--whichever meal, any time of day--at the Moonstruck on the next corner north from my apartment since can't-remember-when. It fulfills, and to spare, the first requirement of a restaurant: that it provide excellent food service, consistently, at a modest price. This long narrow space is wonderfully illuminated by large windows, some of them very high. with excellent views of sky and street--like a box seat at parades and whatever is happening on the street. The staff are neat, clean, reliable, and attentive, some of them waiting on me for as long as I've been going there; we know each other. The very low turnover of staff is, I'd say, a good sign. Nobody tries to rush me or hustle me out, and the almost-never problems with an order are dealt with quickly, pleasantly, and efficiently. I'm so glad they're in the neighborhood!

I can only talk about the dinner which was poor. We asked for bread with our salad which was very hot, and stringy--hard to bite into. The salad seemed wilted and old. The tomatoes were hard to cut and I thought somewhat old. Worst of all was the chicken bathed in cranberry sauce--drowned, I should say. I tried to spill out some of the cranberry sauce out but it didn't help much. The chicken had no taste. The steak my partner ordered was very tough and he could barely cut it with the bread & butter knife they gave us. The only edible things were the broccoli and baked potato.The coffee was all right.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed Moonstruck. We were in NYC for six days vacation, staying on 23rd St. and ate both suppers and breakfasts about 5 times. Food and service were great, as well as the value. For the value patron seeking good food, I don't think it can be beat!
