The Pony Bar

This is a beer bar and the beer choices are vast. But the bar itself, while attractive, is very uncomfortable; just bare plank benches and wooden chairs . On top of this there is no table service. The food is a disaster. The menu sounds great, but everything is so heavily salted, it makes the food inedible. In addition everything at our table was overcooked. The clams in our soup were so tough , we pretty much had to swallow them whole. The sandwich fillings were overcooked and skimpy, service in massive slices of bread...and again, I can't stresss this enough, there tasted like a pound of salt in everything. Between the poor quality of the food, and the discomfort of the seating, I won't be back for a second try.

First the setting and service. While the pub is clean and attractive, it is one of the most uncomfortable to actually sit in. There is no upholstery, only hard wooden benches and stools , many without backs and no table service. There is a huge selection of beers and many of the patrons seemed to appreciate them. But for me the food was inedible. Everything is deluged with salt. The clam chowder had a lovely, but salty, broth but the clams were in the center in their shells and were tough as rubber bands. Pretty to look at, but clumsy and unpleasant to eat. Sandwiches came on huge hunks of bread with little filling and everything was overcooked and tough. It looks inexpensive, but really there is no value. A great pity because the menu was a great read, but I won't be giving this pub a second chance
