The Palm Too
Posted by Lobster Lova on 08/13/2008
I went to the Palm on Monday night and it was surprisingly packed! I have been a bunch of times before mostly for the summer lobster special which is great but the service this time around was absolutely horrible! The waiter was not very attentive. Usually when they serve you the lobster they offer to crack it for you right away- This guy waited about five minutes and needless to say we struggled with the four pounder to the point where by boyfriend actually cut himself on the darn thing. We were not asked if we wanted another drink i had wine and my boyfriend beer- I would have been fine with water but my glass was literally not re-filled the whole meal. The actual meal its self was good so I will prob go back just not on a MONDAY!

Enjoyed everything about our dinner - service was great, the food was excellent. - lobster for me and fish for my husband. The manager gave us dessert on the house because it was our first visit...best tiramisu we've ever had. Saw Don King there, too!

It was the perfect old New York experience! Really good food and awesome carrot cake!

The Good: - Very good & attentive service - Gigantic dessert portions - My halibut dish was actually quite good (fresh fish, not too heavy on the sauce, good crisp fresh spinach) The Bad: - The filet mignon was not good. This is a steakhouse, right? The meat tasted old (not aged, old). It was overcooked on the outside (not like the nice, crispy outside on the filet at Sparks). It was kinda dry, not moist or juicy. Very disappointing. Certainly not worth $48.

Recently I was invited to Palm Too by a relative who wanted to take me out for a birthday dinner. Suffice to say, while the wait staff was very pleasant and helpful, the food wan not very good. I ordered the 12 oz. NY Strip, which was just under $40. For a place that prides itself on the quality of their product, it was possibly one of the least impressive steaks I have ever eaten, loaded with gristle and fat. My wife and son ordered a 4LB Lobster for 2, as did my parents. One of the lobsters was clearly not 4 pounds, which we never would have know had we not ordered 2. Overall, Palm Too is overated and overpriced.

I have been there many times over the years and the beef is either burned on the outside or lacks any salt. Also twice i have been there and ordered champagne, was brought a different bottle at 2X the price (that i did not notice), and then told by the waiter that I did not specify which one (which I did). Other times glasses have been dirty. Once could not get any water for the table because they did not have any water glasses (but of course they had wine glasses). And the noise level is impossible!...I have been to The Palm in four cities and similar issues.

A great steak place with a waitstaff that is down to earth. I had the ribeye which was great and my girlfriend had the filet, which was also well cooked. We had great service from our waiter and plan to go again. We even got free dessert and coffee because it was our first time.
