Great experience
My husband and I went to The New French on a random Wednesday night. The food was great, we both had starters and entrees. Everything was fresh and seasonal. We hadn't realized we had been waiting a while for food to arrive and they poured an extra glass of wine for each of us to acknowledge they were a little slow. We were very happy with the food and service and we will go back.

Poor service
We went there for brunch, and after being left waiting for about 45 minutes after ordering and not being checked on once, it was difficult to enjoy our food. We were starving when we got there and a little bread would have been nice- or even a little acknowledgment of the extremely long wait time! The portions were small and the service was very very poor.

Hold the salt!
Wow, never had a saltier meal...Ever! Pulled pork starter tasted like they added a cup of salt to it. Mussels entree tasted like it had half a cup of salt added to it and the Brisket also had a half a cup of salt added to it...oh, and the fries were salty also. I think I left the place with high blood pressure because of all the salt. Don't eat here, just stay home and eat spoonfuls of salt and it will taste exactly like the food here. FYI, I probably add too much salt at home so I am not a salt-wus. I like salt but this place uses salt as much as the Jersey Shore crew likes to fist pump....which is too much.

A great neighborhood staple
Always lovely and friendly; sometimes a bit crowded, but that's a sign of the success of the restaurant. The sidewalk seating in the summer is lovely as well. Highly recommended.

Good brunch
Went for brunch this afternoon. The servers were very very friendly, and we got to eat outside, which was nice. I had the roasted chicken sandwich with mustard aioli, pickled onions, and romaine on baguette. It was absolutely delicious, and there was even sliced garlic in the aioli. The price was just under $10 for the sandwich that came with fries or salad. Little glass bottles of soda and French press coffee added to the charm. Overall a positive experience.

Great food rude waitress.
The food was very good - and we loved the atmosphere. However, the waitress was so snide and rude, and had the worst attitude, it ruined our meal. Customers should be #1, and there is no reason why a customer should leave a meal upset on a relaxing Saturday afternoon. There are too many other great restaurants in the city to waste your time at this one.

something fishy....
i'd been to this restaurant once before with a satisfactory experience, but went again recently and was beyond disappointed. while the beet salad we ordered was tasty, the "pizza" we ordered arrived cold and had an odd taste. i'm not a picky eater, but it was not tasty and was borderline offensive. then the tuna salad arrived and tasted as though it came straight from the ocean...all of it. it was bathed in salt to the extreme (and i'm a salt lover)...even the lettuce tasted briny and i can't even describe the tuna....think dehydrated Alpo. and the dressing...think aquarium film - i get that it's made with sardines, but i can't imagine ingesting it. i have rarely been truly disappointed in a meal in new york, but this one was a loser. and try as we might to leave and salvage the evening, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a waiter to acknowledge us to bring the check. not going back...
