lunch on march 27, 2015 with 2 friends we ordered 2 frisee salads, we received 2 small plain salads with no frisee at all, no eggs... for the price of $15 dollars! The rest of the meal was ok, fish was good, small portions and expansive wine especially by glass.

I had avoided The Modern for several years, because my experiences in the bar area were so annoying: awkward seating, unbearable noise. But a friend took me last night for a celebration, and I was enchanted. Talk about a difference: the minute we stepped from the bar area to the dining room, it seemed as if we were surrounded by a blessed cone of quiet. The setting, of course, is delightful. The service -- typical of a Danny Meyer restaurant -- was superb: warm, friendly and instructive without being obtrusive. And the food: oh my goodness! The pre-dinner amuses bouches were plentiful and delicious. And while my other dishes, especially the second-course foie gras in Cabernet, were delightful, my heritage pork tenderloin was just amazing, set on a bed of squash puree that was the best I have ever had. I do not usually eat desserts, but the after-dinner cart of various sweets tempted me with a chocolate-covered Calvados lollipop was quite wonderful. Highly recommended overall.

The staff ia courteous and excellent. The food was once great but is now unappetizing.

I made a reservation to celebrate a Birthday after two previous experiences which had been very good. Unfortunately, this wasn't a very good one. We had to wait 37 min to be seated, they sat us at the lounge after standing at the bar entrance for aprox 10 min and then forgot about us. They wouldn't even take our drink order until my husband called a server. After waiting 25 min we asked a server about the table and were told they were setting it up( same story given 15 min earlier when sent to lounge). The food was very good, beautifully presented and service at the table was very good, although slightly slow between some courses. Desserts and the cart were excellent.

Went there a couple of weeks ago because we needed to pick up gifts for friends at MOMA. While I knew it was going to be pricey, I have to admit the bill ended up being what we usually pay at steakhouses, thus a bit o' sticker shock! That being said, it was worth every penny! I'm still dreaming about the squab and foie gras third course! The chocolate cart is also quite a wonder, reminded me of being in restaurants in Europe. So, in brief, this is an exceptional restaurant. I cant wait to go back.

What a gem! The view of the sculpture garden is spectacular. The blessedly quiet space is a welcome treat. The service was perfect--polite, attentive, but not obtrusive. Noticing that my friend and I were talking before ordering, our waiter let us know we could take all the time we wanted. When we were ready, he appeared at once. Highly professional and very charming service from everyone. We loved every morsel of food (we had the prixe fixe), from the lobster to the short ribs. Dessert was an artistic marvel and as wonderful to eat as to observe. A plate of chocolates and sweets ended a magnificent meal. We will return.
