    Yummy

I went during restaurant week, and had a very good experience. Their menu for R.W. was a lot larger than a lot of the other places participating. Everything I had was really good. I went with 2 girls from work and we tried eachother's food. This is one of my top favorite restaruants in NY. They didn't win the award for nothing! I also like how it is part of the MOMA building. Very cool.

    Anniversary Lunch

From the moment you step inside, the "Modern"experience begins - from the swivel chairs and slick utensils, to paper thin stemware finishing on the modern presentation of the food. Not only is it presented in style but it tastes good too. Complimentary butternut panna cotta gently sat on top of a vinegrette (it overpowered the delicate, smooth panna cotta), 2 types of crispy, fresh rolls were served along side a cheesy butter presented on an artistic plate resembling glass stairs, the poached salmon swam on top of a creamy sauce delightfully tasty and moist. The pork accompanied by an apple puree created a perfect matching, topped with a bold sauce. The dessert was an artistic creation of sorbets and merengue made "on demand" as the pre-fix had a nutty dessert which we had to turn down due to allergies. The meal ended with petite fours which were packed home with a smile. Although pricey the experience is unforgettable.

    Underwhelmed

My wife recently took me here for my birthday after reading many positive things about the restaurant. In short, the food did not live up to our lofty expectations. Mostly, it was subtle and, at times, bland. There were some high notes. The escargot ravioli with poached quail egg was exquisite and by far the best thing of the evening. Unfortunately, it was only one of seven courses (on the tasting menu). A couple others were good but not memorable, and the lobster "cappucino" was a failure on many levels. The service was crisp and timely though not necessarily warm. I've been to other restaurants where the staff members shared their love of food with the customers in a kind, generous, and humble way. That was not the case at The Modern. It seemed more like business as usual. The decor is striking, but in the end, I don't go to restaurants for decor. And at the prices they are charging, they should be creating a memorable experience. They just aren't.

    Wow. Exceeded All Expectations

Dinner at The Modern was one of my most enjoyable dining experiences in quite a while. The place is nicely laid out - tables are well-spaced, the noise level is reasonable enough to have a conversation and the view of MOMA's Sculpture Garden is rather nice. Service was excellent: professional and friendly without overdoing it. Every dish my date and I had was excellent. And you are given so many "freebies" - amuse bouche, palate cleanser, petit fors, chocolates and a little cake to take home (?!) that you can't help but feel that you've put yourself in the hands of people that are dedicated to providing you with a wonderful meal and dining experience. I will definitely be coming back to The Modern.

    Great restaurant

I have eaten in the dining room a few times and this is one of my favorites. This time, though, I ate at the bar - and I can remember every morsel. Outstanding. And the service, as always, was wonderful. I don't mind paying top dollar for food if I feel that it's worth it - and this is definitely worth it...

    A fantastic dining experience!

I recently had dinner at The Modern and was blown away. The food was delicious, the atmosphere warm and romantic and the service impeccable. They have a good wine list with a number of half bottles for those dining alone. I am busy trying to find an excuse to go back!

    Not Thrilled

After hearing so much about The Modern, my expectations were very high. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to all the hype and would not go back. I had the summer tasting menus and I can not think of one memorable dish except for the desert. Everything from the panna cotta with cavier to the lobster to the awful ribeye was small and over complicated. Perhaps ordering off the ala carte menu is better but I doubt it. I did like the impressive wine list and the service was very good. Overall though this isn't close to being in the big leagues yet.
