The Hurricane Club
Posted by Lou on 01/06/2011
This is one of a few lousy places that I went on suggestion of friends last week. The food was gussied up bar food at serious prices, my gf's fruity drink had no booze and was sloppily made (glass all wet with mixer) and nobody finished their dessert. These expensive places need to start hearing from the people who actually waste their money.

Took a big group to the Hurricane Club last night. Everyone had an incredible time (almost too good of a time). The drinks are extremely tasty. The coconut rice and baby back ribs are mouthwatering. Coconut shrimp is to die for. This place is definitely worth checking out.

WOW... this place exudes the charm of old world Hollywood elegance... the atmosphere is simply breath taking! They serve innovative drinks in coconut shells and in watermelons... the drink served in the coconut is the best drink I've ever had... all the drinks are numbered but can't remember which number the coconut one is. Went with a group and everyone thought the food was exceptional and we are all NYC foodies. The new GM gave us the royal tour and and made us feel like VIPs... the incredible service paired with the excellent food and drinks make this place my new NYC hot spot. Next time, I will wear my good shoes... there is even a shoe shiner along with a rum fountain downstairs... seriously!

Gorgeous atmospheric place but that's the best part. Well, the cocktails are nice, at least my first one was. The second one seemed a bit "light" in the alcohol department and the black salt garnish that was supposed to line the rim was dripping down the sides of the glass. We had two apps - coconut shrimp was good but they forgot to mention the dipping sauce was mayo based. Not a fan. Hamachi appetizer was a big no. Three ingredients listed on the menu, only one showed up in the dish - the hamachi. Huh? We followed up with the fried calamari salad, which was pretty good, and the mussels, which were pretty dull. The dessert menu was uninspired so we asked the waiter for a recommendation and ordered the chocolate cake for two. It took so long to get to us that it arrived with an apology and on the house. That was nice customer service at least, but it wasn't worth waiting for. Oh, did I mention that they tried to seat us in the back next to the room that had just been painted? The stench was overpowering - we had to move. I hope the service issues will get worked out, but the food was a disappointment. I probably would only come here again for drinks.

Great atmosphere and a huge menu. Perfect for going with a group so you can share and try a bunch of different things and drinks.
