Wonderful appetizers and not the run of the mill choices. Though their burger was great, I liked the duck dinner even more. The staff was attentive, but not hovering. Sit at the bar and order several appetizers with a great martini!

The operative word here, is ONCE! Two poached eggs. How wrong could you go? We all know, a little vinegar in the poaching liquid aids the coagulation process but, if it smells like vinegar and tastes like vinegar, yes, it was poached in vinegar -- or at least much too much vinegar. The hollandaise was a mere glaze just on the yolks. Artsy-fartsy Eggs Benedict or just an incompetent cook? You tell me. And, the coffee was luke warm -- served in a cup so thick and heavy, it took both hands to hold it. Thumbs down on The House.

First, we had a reservation, but we were seated downstairs. Compared to upstairs it's a bit cold and cramped. My real complaint lies with the dismissive manager/perhaps owner who sat in the corner with his laptop taking up a great table. He could not be bothered to get up and greet us when we walked in and we were the first guests in the place. He instead motioned to the busy server to come out from the bar to greet and seat us. Our server was nice but he forgot to give us spoons for the "chowder". The spoons were literally right next to the owner/manager and he could see us looking around for assistance, yet, we had to wait for the server to finish with the other table to bring us spoons. We were not impressed with the food. A bowl of warm milk with truffle oil and two oysters thrown in does not make an oyster chowder. After our first course had been cleared, we waited 25 minutes for the second course ... Again, manager/ owner could not be bothered to check. And, at this point we hardly saw the poor server who was alone with tables upstairs & downstairs and seemed to be the bartender as well. Finally we got our "entrees". My 2 small scallop sliders were lackluster. My husband's lunch entree (mushroom truffle flatbread) was good but normally it is a lunch appetizer, so a bit of a scam offering it as a lunch entree. Our server was upstairs as we paid up and began to leave... I waited to see if Manager/owner would have the sense to at least say goodbye or thank you, but of course he was consistent in not caring one bit about the patrons. And now I know why everyone who walked in that day had an open table or living social deal. Also, it should be noted that for the quality and quantity of food, their prices are ridiculous. The 2 sad scallop sliders should not normally cost $19. Maybe in a restaurant with stronger execution and service..

A friend and myself decided to try out this restaurant by purchasing a dinner coupon. Maybe the poor service and treatment, as if they were doing us a favor to accommodate us, was due to the coupon (which did not turn out as a bargain in the end), but the food was at best mediocre. I had an appetizer of mushroom and polenta. The porcini mushrooms were tasteless and rubbery and the entire dish was greasy and overly buttery. The were conveniently out of scallops (which was available when I first ordered them, and the only thing Ireally found appealing on the menu) so I ordered some "special" tortellini. I received a portion which was even smaller then an appetizer (about 5 tiny tortellini. They were OK, but very miniscule portion with no embellishments of any kind. My friend had the same appetizer and a miniscule portion of rabbit (wanted the unavailable scallops as well). Desert was OK (chocolate cake). Besides the mediocre food and minsicule portions, the service was non existent. The atmosphere was one of distain for patrons utilizing a coupon. As it turned out we were presented with a bill at the end for tax on the so called real value of the meal ($114 for 2 people) which was not even worth the discounted value, and a 20% forced gratuity based upon the $114 meal value. All it all the dinner without drinks came out to about$100 for two people. Poor value. Especially since we were treated like unwelcome guests or beggars. There are so many excellent restaurants in New York City, this is NOT one of them.

Me and my girlfriends have been coming to The House ever since they opened 5 years ago. We love to come eat at the bar..such a beautiful atmosphere by the marble fire place! ....The food is great...one of my absolute favorites is the Wild Boar Lasagna...best i've ever had. So much flavor. My friend had the Tile Fish which was so fresh and delicious flavors. The brussel sprouts with bacon lardons were great as well. In the summer we sit on the patio all the time to grab drinks. It's so cozy and fun! we love it here!

I was so looking forward to eating at this restaurant with my husband and 2 other couples. The waitress didnt advise us to order any sides so when my husbands lamb chops came there were literally 2 lamb chops on the plate. That's it! It was too small even for an appetizer portion but it was a main course. The waitress didnt return to our table until he had eaten the lamb and by then he had asked the bus boy to get him a side of potatoes, which came after the "2" lamb chops were eaten. My lobster sandwich was very basic (regular sliced bread - nothing fancy). Definately will not be returning....

I went to the House last evening with friends. The evening started off well. My meal, lasagna, arrived lukewarm, so I sent it back. By the time my dinner companions had finished their entrees the lasagna hadn't reappeared. Notifying the waiter, I got no apology, but he skittered off, presumably to check, then came back without a word and continued to wait on other customers. I then canceled the order and asked to speak to the manager, who was apologetic. The waiter insisted that it had only been two minutes since I sent the lasagna back, which I denied. As I returned to my table the waiter insulted me across the room, audible to anyone who was listening (fortunately, few people were). I went back and reported this to the manager, who comped us two drinks and offered dessert (which we declined). My friends all gave the food mediocre ratings. This place could be good, but someone is taking their eye off the ball.
