Never fresh if you get pizza by the slice
Went in tonight to give this pizza another try and I picked up 2 slices of pizza. Came all the way home and the pizza was old and not very warm at all. The cheese was hard as a rock. I am never going back to this pizza place again. francescos up the street is so much better.

A tradition that has only gotten better!
This place was the best when I was growing up... It has only gotten better. To the owner's that took the place over: Kudos to you & keep the great food coming!

Not sure what Pizza you've had lately but..
Great fresh pizza. Upside down. Fresh, every day. Arrive at 11:30 for lunch and you won't be disappointed. Pizza is meant to be eaten right out of the oven. And Paul takes pride in his work . As I am a local Brooklyn boy who grew up in Carroll gardens, I've eaten at the original : Queen pizzeria on court, Sal's, Vincent's, patsy's, Nino's and others. While nostalgia for these old greats is easy. House of Pizza is a great, modern traditional pizza joint with a lot of heart.

best pizza n fried calzones in town !
changing owners scared me bc this was my fav pizzeria from wen i was a kid, but i was very pleased to see that vito the old owner hung around and gave the new owners tips and ingredients for the calzones zeps n round slices...they just redid the place not to long ago<it looks beautiful and a lot cleaner...the menu has expanded to manyy different deliscious pies i love the upside down and the grandma...salad was great...and love the panninis...the only reason why they dont have ham in the calzones is bc the previous owners didnt either..they wanted to keep a tradition going..greatest pizza for me and my family !!

Overrated
This is not a review from one visit, I have lived here for 6 years and have just experienced my "last straw". A little better then average pizza but it's Brooklyn, that's not that special, plus they are not consistent. The attitudes of the people there are the worst, they act like they are doing you a favor, real nasty and arrogant, basically a bunch of flour covered jerks. Just got a pizza and it was not well done as I asked but just burnt on the bottom. The delivery guy was the only friendly one most likely due to the fact that my pizza kept him warm on a cold day tucked under his arm vertically, unless it's a new kind of "One Slice With Cheese" pizza to go with their idiotic upside down pizza. Want to see what I mean about them being bullies with dough rollers, ask for a Calzone with ham on Friday, you will get reprimanded like you were in Catholic school "NO MEAT ON FRIDAYS"! Instead order the chicken parmigiano and savor the taste of authentic old world hypocrisy.

Upside Down Pizza is Amazing
We've only ordered delivery, so can't speak for service or decor, but the food taste is fantastic. The upside down pizza is our hands down favorite, try it and fall in love.

Not the Same
I ate at the House of Pizza & Calzone before it changed hands a few years ago, and the pizza was much better, flavorful and distinctive. Now the pies are OK, but nothing special, and the redo on the decor has made is look like a lot of other places. It's lost the personality it had. A sad loss.
