    Food without flavor

Food without flavor. Hamburgers tastes like frozen hamburgers from the supermarket. Guacamole, no flavor just mashed avocados, no onions, nothing. Appetizer arrived half hour after entree. I can't get over my experience in this diner. Hamburger looks unappetizing, like gray, I was afraid to eat it. Service, poor. Waiter was difficult to find.

    Not what I expected!

I was stuck for a place to dine on a Thursday night at around 8pm. The highliner looked busy, but my friends wanted to try it anyway. The wait for 4 was only 15 minutes. It's small inside but the old school feel was romantically lit with candles. We had a great server who was entertaining. Though she was clearly busy, she made it a point to check in time to time and give us updates about our food status. The manager also stopped by to ask how we liked our meals, which we learned was a part of a new seasonal menu released only one day before. We had a great time, ate amazing food and had fantastic cocktails made by a mixologist. This will be my new Thursday spot!

    Subpar

Poor from beginning to end: the staff seemed disinterested to seat us, our waitress was neglectful and seemed bored, the food was greasy yet bland at the same time and overpriced to top it off. I asked for mustard and had to ask 3 different people since the first 2 "forgot" and it took 10 minutes. Don't waste your money or time.

    Great experience

I live in the neighborhood, and have been waiting forever for the old Empire Diner to reopen. To be fair, the old place really failed in the last 5 years, the servers were purposely obnoxious unless you were a real regular. After a shaky start, The highliner has honestly blown me away with some amazing food. I think the lobster spaghetti had like a pound of fresh lobster and the pasta was al dente, which I love. The Burratta was every bit as good as Morandi, which I love. I have also had a great sandwich, called the Hangover. It really was great, kind of a BLT with an egg. What my server lacked in experience, he made up for in charm and hospitality. So, overall, I'd say I am going to put this place in my regular rotation.

    not recommended

We tried this place out as we live in the neighborhood and we used to like coming to its predecessor. The food was not that great. My dining companion had the pork chops. It arrived late and he cut into it, it splashed all over his shirt. When asked by the waitress how was everything. He said it was not good. She did not even asked how she can make things better or if there was anything she could do. She simply ignored us the remainder of our stay! My fried chicken was 'eh at best. We are never coming back. The service is awful and the food is nothing to right home about. What an awful mess

    Mediocre

Food was mediocre at best and with few options on the menu you would think the little they had would be quality. Atmosphere is cute and good for outdoor people watching. Our server was clueless

    Disappointing for breakfast

I know they're new so I'm hoping my experience at breakfast today will come to be seen as an aberration, but i paid a lot of money for food that wasn't very good. My dining companion's poached eggs were a runny mess; my omelette, for $16, was dry and puny. Presentation is lackluster. Ate outdoors only because music indoors was way too loud. Coffee, to be fair, was good. I live a block away but, sadly, don't need to go back.
