Best West Side Mexican food!
I grew up in california eating Mexican food every day having had mexican cooks in our house. Great Burrito is far and away my favorite place to have mexican at the moment in the city. Undeniably, there are other great taco shops in town but most do not have home made salsa, delicious home made meats, gorgeous nachos and unbelievable tacos and outragious flautas. I only order take out so I cannot speak to the ambiance and service, but when I am in town I eat there at least twice a week. Try the potato quesadilla, hard shell ground beef tacos, poblano soup and flautas with thier hottest salsa.

Great Burritos
I get take out burritos from there often and the Onion Steak burrito is the best burrito I have ever had. I was in Mexico for spring break and that food couldn't compare to this place

Beware of the grilled chicken burrito...
My boyfriend and I decided to try takeout from The Great Burrito last weekend. I ordered the guacamole and chips and black bean soup, and he ordered the grilled chicken burrito. Delivery was very quick, the guacamole was YUMMY, and the black bean soup was mediocre. So not a bad experience so far... until my boyfriend noticed that nearly every piece of chicken in his burrito had a bone in it. He couldn't finish his meal.

Delicious Mexican
To be honest I'm usually not a big fan of Mexican, probably because of awful experiences with little taco joints in the city. But after reading the reviews I gave The Great Burrito a try and it totally did a 180 on my taste buds. Not a big fan of potato either but on a whim I ordered the potato and jalapeno quesadilla and I was so glad I did. I kept looking inside because I couldn't figure out where these great flavors were coming from. For simple ingredients it delivers a delicious surprising load of savory flavors. I also ordered the guacomole and chips and was surprised how fresh and tasty the guacomole was. Even the chips were not an oily mess but more like as if they were baked. Even their green salsa is refreshingly good. This place is definitely the best Mexican I have encountered so far in the city and has totally changed my perceptions about Mexican food. Absolutely delicious.

Best Mexican on Upper West Side
I spent most of my life in Colorado, which has a huge Mexican population and great Mexican food. My biggest disappointment in moving to NYC has been the Mexcian food. It's either doled out for dirt cheap by Chinese people with no clue what cumin is, or it's $20/a-plate "gourmet" Mexican with peach reduction mango salsa. The Great Burrito is the great exception in this area. Authentic food (they're real live Mexicans behind the counter!), good prices, and good portions. The chips & salsa alone is worth a visit. The potato and jalapeno quesadilla is amazing if you don't mind the carbs.

Get the basics - it's good and cheap
I always order the bean tacos, for a couple bucks you get a meal. Can't beat that. It's good and basic. They are fast and nice.

Small Portions?
Are you kidding me? Get a burrito! It's enormous!
