Exactly what I needed
I live here in the city and am always looking for restaurants that have great food but also great energy and a good scene- places I can go with my girlfriends and enjoy a full night. The General is exactly that sort of place! As with any popular restaurant, there was a bit of a wait but you could tell the hostess was doing everything she could and my party of 6 was sat within 10 minutes of our reservation time. The food was delicious- we ordered some of the lighter dishes (sashimi salad, sushi rolls, the cod, etc) and enjoyed it all- the corn Cobb is a highlight must try. Our waiter was lovely and it was an overall wonderful ny dining experience. We'll definitely be back soon!

Poorest dining experience ever!
I don't even know where to start with how AWFUL this place is. They sat us 45 minutes after our reservation time....20 minutes before a server even acknowledged our table...waiter spilled soy sauce all over birthday girl's white top...food was OVERPRICED & UNDERWHELMING (basically glorified take-out chinese)...and to top it off while trying to exit the dining room, which apparently turns into a lounge, was accosted by a bouncer. Just a terrible experience and a waste of time & money...typical trendy, want-to-be restaurant that WILL BE CLOSED IN 6 MONTHS

You have to eat here!
I really enjoyed this restaurant...in fact, I went there for dinner twice in two weeks so that I can try more items on the menu. The flavors are fun and different...for example, the tofu was interesting bc it tasted just like bacon. And the atmosphere is cool. Its a hip, chill spot with good food...What more do you need?

very disappointed
I was dining last night w my friend. we both are Asian. Basically all the dishes we ordered had the same taste, way too sweet and way too salty w tons of sugar and soy. I was pretty surprised by the fact that top chef winner created those food. We only had 5 little dishes but left half for all and could not continue to eat. It is very easy to prepare Asian food w dashi, soy, suger, sake etc but if you use them too much, it gets so salty and sweet and make all dish taste the same and boring. That's what we got last night. I am pretty sure that Americans are ok with it since they don't know much about Asian food. And...way to expensive. How can you charge $14 for crappy tofu dish. I was expecting to have Tofu 3 ways to be very sensitive Japanese way of dish. It was way too salty and sweet and coated w brown chinese sauce. Asian Fusion is a mistake. Go to Authentic Japanese place for Japanese food. Chinese for Chinese food. I will NOT go back there.

The Best Experience I Ever Had in NYC Dining
I have to say that is refreshing to have such a wonderful restuarant with exceptional service. The food was pitch perfect. The stmosphere was intimate for such a large scale restuarant and it was suitable for both large parties and small one on one settings. The value of food and style that we paid for was exactly in keeping with what you expect from a quality restaurant. It was simply the best experience I have ever had in NYC. Take note that this is the way that a restuarant should be run and the kind of service that one should expect. Pitch perfect. And even the management team was attentive and could be seen walking around ensuring that the dining experience was great. Perfection.

The Good, The Bad, & The Delayed
9:30 reservation for four people. We were seated at.....wait for it.....11:05. I can't make this up. I ABSOLUTELY understand things can be hectic the first weekend a restaurant is open, but this was ridiculous. And all of the reservations had this issue. Now that being said, the restaurant bought us three rounds of free drinks, and a whole round of appetizers on the house. So while the time delay was crazy even for NYC, it was handled impressively well. The food was excellent. Don't miss the chicken tacos, fried rice with egg, calamari, and any of the sushi. Scene is fantastic; just like Catch & Abe and Arthur's. Verdict; wait for some of the kinks to be worked out, but this place will remain a huge scene. It is a lot of fun and great food, save for the long wait.
