Lovely Restaurant With A Cute Name

Fresh, delicious British food? Yes, you can find it at The Fat Radish on the Lower East Side. The restaurant itself has a clean design, rustic and set in cool, neutral tones. And although not everything on the menu screams "British", you can find continental dishes along with some classic items like their Berkshire Pork Sausage from the dinner menu, or the Full English Breakfast on the brunch menu. Off of the brunch menu, I ordered The Fat Radish Plate, Seasonal Market Vegetables (heirloom carrots, squash, Japanese turnips, kale, cipollini onions, sweet potato, hijiki, brown rice, adzuki beans, tahini dressing, carrot ginger puree, pickled cabbage). Delicious Food

The food was truly amazing. We had the scotch egg, trout entree, zatar bread appetizer, and swordfish entree as well as a few drinks. Delicious. It is a bit pricey but the food is very good. Lots of options for mixed parties of meat eaters, veggies, pescatarians. They do everything right here. I will say the hostess gave us a bit of an attitude when we wanted to switch tables. I don't really see why she had a problem seeing as though the place was only half full. We weren't playing musical chairs! The bus boys/waiters were a million times more polite and friendly. Another thing I have to say which is a point of contention for me in "organic" restaurants... We asked the waitress if everything was organic and she said "yes everything is" We asked the second waitress who was bringing desert to the table next to us... Are all of the desserts organic? She said no. She also let us know they use domino refined sugar in them. Definitely NOT organic. Food was truly delicious. Atmosphere is very nice. Everything we had tasted wonderful. Great cocktail selection.

    Great find

Used a TravelZoo voucher for this restaurant last night and was blown away. The food was as good as it gets. The Kale Caesar, Peekey Toe Crab Gratin, Heritage Pork Chop and the lamb (night's special) was as good as it gets. Service was excellent and the ambiance is funky. Only caveat is the bench seating doesn't work if you have a bad back - ask for a wall seat. Definitely will return (with or without a voucher). A bit pricey without a voucher but worth it!

    délicieux!

Loved the decor w/beautiful flowers! Everything we tried on the menu was great (celery root pot pie, chickpea hummus, steamed cabbages). Presentation excellent and the fat radishes they bring to the table were fresh and delicious. The server was helpful and answered many questions. Cool place!

    Left after 2 hrs wait

Waited for 2 hrs for a table. hostess gave us a weird attitude even when the place was half empty. placed guests who arrived after us at tables and told me to 'step back i am busy' when i asked her how long she wants to keep us waiting for our table. extremly disappointing experience.

    Pretty good

Atmosphere and decor is brilliant. The amazingly sweet and attentive hostess (I think her name was DJ) was able to miraculously squeeze 3 of us in sans reservations on a Friday night. We drank at the bar for about 2 hours but definitely would NOT have waited that long if the hostess wasn't so friendly, kind and sincerely attentive. The rest of the staff, on the other hand, seemed a bit bland and apathetic personality-wise, but service was timely and professional nonetheless. The kale caesar salad was subtle and tasty and the bacon cheeseburger (I love how it's listed on the menu AS a BACON CHEESEburger!) was juicy and pretty darn delicious. The fries were a little heavy and boring steak-fry-ish and the monkfish a little salty (and I like salt). We didn't do dessert so I can't speak for the celery root pie everyone is raving about. The prices are reasonable, the food's decent and it's a cute spot. I'd definitely go back to try some other things on the menu - especially the grilled cheese and pickles and the scotch egg. Guilty pleasures much!?

    A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

My friend treated me to a lovely birthday dinner last night, and I'm so happy that I chose The Fat Radish. We didn't have a res but the hostess was accomadating but lacked personality and warmth. However, our server was on point and the best highlight of the night was of course the food. I ordered the monkfish vindalooh with wild rice and I died and went to heaven. Every bite was savory and cooked to perfection. I loved the ambiance of the dining room and clearly everyone was having a great time. Stay away from the cocktails (the lemonade was tooo weak to be considered one) and just stick to wine or beer. I can't wait to go back and try brunch. This is definitely my new go to spot downtown.
