The Cutting Room

We went last night, 2/6/2015 to see Top Shelf. The music gets 5 starts, but we were stiffed by the waitress and later found from other websites that others had the same experience at this establishment. We paid our bill in cash, handing the folder to the waitress on the way out. She came running out saying we didn't pay enough, when we had given a $30+ tip on a $108 bill. She counted what was in her hand, and it was $103, claiming we didn't even leave enough for the bill. We were in a hurry to catch up with our friends who needed to get a train and at the time, gave her the benefit of the doubt. Even apologized! However, on the train home, my husband (knowing how much he started with at the beginning of the evening) counted the money in his wallet and realized that he HAD in fact given her the full intended amount. If you pay cash, have the wait service COUNT IT IN FRONT OF YOU. I strongly suggest you check your credit card charges if you use a card as well. The feedback about the service here is atrocious, so buyer beware. If it weren't for the music, the place would've closed down long ago.

What a pleasant surprise! Here's my story: We have an apartment walking distance from The Cutting Room, but I had never heard of it. I saw that Renee Fleming was having an UC&P at a place called The Cutting Room, so after buying my ticket, I did some homework. Saw that it had a bar, a full restaurant, and had live music several nights of the week. When I saw that they were going to have a night called "Ricky Nelson Remembered" starring his twin sons, I bought tickets - and went - and had a wonderful time. The manager - Mark - was extremely helpful and made sure we had great seats, the waitress - Bianca - gave us terrific service, the food & wine very good, and the show was terrific. All at very reasonable prices. And if all that wasn't enough, there turned out to be a 2nd show - the Cherry Poppin' Daddies - at no additional charge. We will surely return! Highly recommended!

My husband, his friend, and I drove nearly 3 hours to get to The Cutting Room last night (1/16/13) and couldn't have been more disappointed with the service. We arrived at 6:30 and planned to go in and sit down for dinner before the show. This is a little late for us to eat dinner, so we were starving. We were told by the bartenders that we would have to wait until 7 to go in and sit down because they weren't ready yet. OK. 7:00 came and went, as did 7:30 and 8:00. We FINALLY got to go in around 8:30 but by that time the lobby was so packed we couldn't get a table where all three of us could sit together so my husband's friend decided to stand. I couldn't flag a waitress down until about 9:00 when the show had already started. We were the first people there that night and other people were finishing eating at this point and we didn't even have menus yet... We were livid! This is when it really gets good because I stop a waitress and ask her if we were ever going to get any service here (a little cocky, but I wasn't out of line). I really didn't think they were going to get us food.. I asked her for menus and she threw them on our table. The manager wouldn't take accountability for anything. He ended up bringing us burgers about 45 minutes later. Our friend never got to order, as he was still standing, so we had to split the two meals between the three of us. Can you imagine that? We finished our burgers as the show was ending and people were getting up to leave. Did that whole ordeal allow any of us to even enjoy the music? No. This was probably the worst service I ever had in my life and I will NEVER go back. What a shame that my husband's first time in the city had to end up this way. Yes, the food was good, the beer was tasty and the music great, but the attitude of management/servers was deplorable.
