    A fantastic spot!

Unfortunately we discovered this place on the last night of our stay in NY. What can I say, the staff were amazingly friendly, the atmosphere was brilliant, nicely relaxing to wind up a hectic few days in NY. The food was excellent, particularly the pavlova!

    Overall great time

Came into New York from Kansas City, stayed right across the street, and was pointed to the Crooked Knife by my concierge. I was so happy to see that the portions were big, you definitely get what you pay for here. Great liquor selection, wide menu of comfort food. Ended up staying all night with friends. Will definitely come back my next visit. Just a great environment to hang out in. The waitress told me they're getting outdoor seating too, which will make it even cooler. A+

    Great cosy place

I work in the area and love this new resturant. I go for lunch at least once a week and love their pasta dishes, my girl friends are salad lovers and always lick their plates. The waitress is always so friendly and always makes sure we're well looked after no matter how busy it gets. I've also gone for drinks after work and love the bar staff too, very friendly and always helpful. I will say when we started going there first they had alot of problems but thats all gone now. I love this place and it is a great welcome to the area.

Just what the doctor called for...

I have been living in this neighborhood for almost 12 years, and when I walked by the Crooked Knife almost a month ago, I couldn't have been happier. It's warm and comfortable, brilliantly decorated, and best of all, the staff was so welcoming (not to mention, attractive!). The menu is what I would describe as "comfort food," although they will try to accomodate Vegetarians, specialty orders, allergies etc. I had a friend who is a Vegan with me and she left just as full as I did. The menu does leave something to be desired, but the staff was very willing to help pick something appropriate. Unlike the cookie cutter joints in the area, the staff here appeared to have personalities and (gasp) fun! Good liquor list, great music, amazing atmosphere. Whether it's for a laid back date, a Saturday night out, or a hung-over brunch, I recommend the Crooked Knife to everyone I know. Keep your ears perked, this place is onto something good.

Need to work on the menu

Been to the Crooked Knife four times now - twice for drinks - twice to eat. We were very excited to see something pop up in our 'hood, which has a lack of anything open past 5pm. The ambiance at the Crooked Knife is great - the food needs some help. I feel as though it is stuff that I could have made at the age of 12 in my own kitchen - and honestly, I may have been able to assemble it better myself. We have had salads with no dressing offered, sandwiches that were cold, a pot pie that was undercooked.... Mussels are good - but nothing new, and nothing special. We have given it multiple shots at a good entree by bringing guests with us. The wait staff service the last time left something to be desired on a weekend at lunch...they were more concerned folding napkins than asking us whether or not our food was ok... Had they asked, I think the answer would have been a resounding 'no'. We were treated as if it was a nuisance that anyone was there to have lunch at 11:30 on a Saturday.... The bar staff has always been great - so we tend to stay on that side of the place... the bar has hope. Good beer selection. The menu needs invention - and enthusiasm from staff. There is no manager around - noone to ask how you think they're doing... Unfortunately, I don't see a big future for this place until they start acting as though the customer matters.
