i enjoyed my trip to crooked knife. granted, it was crowded, but the food was good and the service was attentive. i would definitely return and recommend it to friends.

Awesome!
I found out about this place over the summer through some coworkers and have been coming here regularly ever since! Maybe twice a week on average. What can I say? The atmosphere is great, the service is great, the food is great! Mostly I've ordered appetizers and have had dinner there a few times; everything has been very good. The waitresses are sweet (and very attractive, I have to say) and the bartenders are awesome. All in all, the Knife is a very welcome addition to this neighborhood. I've been waiting for a restaurant-bar like this in Murray Hill!

I went here for dinner last night, having never really seen it before in the neighborhood. It looked pretty packed and i figured that was a good sign...wrong. While the atmosphere in the restaraunt is not bad, the food ws not good. I ordered a burger medium rare, and it came out burnt to a crisp. A hockey puck. I'm not one to send food back, but in this case i did and the next burger came out in EXACTLY the same condition. Now, i understand that maybe they were trying out a new chef, but to add insult to injury here the manager actually preceeded to act quite rudely to us, ignored us and didnt have the good sense to apologize for the kitchens pretty blantant gaffe. So, the place looks great--its just a shame that the kitchen is subpar and that the managers in the place don't have the sense to make the customer feel as though its a place they would like to come back to.

Give me a break
After reading somewhat flattering reviews I decided to give this place a try. Bad idea. The food was sub par and nothing impressive. Dry chicken pot pie, dirty linens, an embarrassing wine list, a manager who appeared to be asleep on the bar. The only redeeming quality was the server who was (almost) worth coming back for. It looked like all the manager did was check out ladies at the bar and eat. This place has serious potential if they do some renovations in the kitchen and FOH manager. No, thank you.

Traditionally Irish
The Crooked Knife is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Sunday nights are especially great because of the live music. This group is the real thing holding the traditional sesiun of fiddle, guitar, pipes, etc. I felt like I was in Dublin!

irish bar - no smitticks?
a group of 6 - 8 of us go to the crooked knife at least once every couple of weeks for lunch and i have been at the bar for drinks after work on 4 occasions. the food is great and so is the ambiance. the service is good as well - except at the bar. on each occasion that i have been at the bar, there has only been one bartender. the bar gets pretty packed with the after work crowd and with only one bartender the drinks are very slow to order. the other issue is that they don't have smitticks on tap or in bottles. i've asked about this many times and no one at the establishment seems to think that this is important. smitticks after all is the oldest beer produced in ireland (circa 1710) and the second most popular beer in ireland behind guiness. i'm not even irish. maybe i'm too much of a fan of smitticks (spelled smithwicks), but in irish bars it is a staple beer. in summary, the crooked knife is a fantastic establishment but i am confident that if they solved their slow bar issues and got smitticks on tap they would come full circle. i find myself going to desmond's around the corner to get smitticks and better bar service regularly instead of the knife.
