Great spot for Burgers
I have been to Counter in VA location, and The Counter in NYC is no different. The space is small, but again its not your fine dining experience and its in Manhattan where spaces are cramped. The service is above average and the staff is quite polite. The food is why I really go there. Every time I like to try different burger toppings and I am never disappointed. Its fresh, hot and delicious. I personally prefer thick cut fries, but the bold taste of parmesan fries compensates the thinness of the fries at The Counter. My wife had the veggie burger and she said that its one of the best Veggie burgers she had. Overall this is recommended burger joint if you are in the Broadway area..

Really interesting
My food was phenomenal. I sat at the bar and the bartender was great, she was really sweet.

Really Enjoyed It
I really enjoyed my build-your-own burger. They offer more then enough options for you to build a tasty burger. The onion straws were fantastic and I enjoyed the frys as well. Plus it was happy hour so we got half off the frys and onion straws. I will definietly go back.

Better than expected
After reading the one review, I was not interested in another expensive mediocre burger place. but I was passing by and it was not crowded so I thought I would give it a try. The staff is very friendly and the burgers were much better than expected. I had a turkey burger and my daughter had an american cheese burger. We split one huge order of fries. We both thought The Counter blows away other popluar burger restaurants for about the same price with wait service. We will be back.

Aggressively mediocre
Just picked up lunch at The Counter. Had to wait 20 minutes for a to-go order. (Sitting wedged behind a door on top of a cold radiator, since there's no waiting space of any kind). Paid just over $13 for their smallest hamburger, with their smallest fries, with no premium toppings of any kind and no drink. First they forgot my fries and I had to go back. Then I realized they forgot the tomato (on my build-to-order burger). Got back to my office to find the small dollop of lettuce was thoroughly wilted and there was exactly one piece of what might be relish in the red relish sauce. Then after two bites I realized the burger was undercooked. (They cook all burgers medium, I asked for well done, it was still red in the center). Opened my fries to find them oversalted and cold. I understand they just opened two weeks ago, it was busy with the lunch rush and they are still shaking out kinks, but to charge someone $13 for a burger and fries, make them wait 20 minutes and then get their order wrong in three different ways is a bit much. The only real plus was that the entire staff was as pleasant as humanly possible and really making an effort to put a good face on what is clearly a frantic situation back in the kitchen. (You can see into the kitchen from the front register, "frantic" might be charitable actually).
