Best Chinese in the City. Period.

Okay, the service is poor. Oh, and the chefs tend to just scream at each other in whatever their native dialect of Chinese is, but the food is AMAZING. I crave this sometimes so bad... Anyways, if this place went out of business, I'd be borderline suicidal. The Cottage's orange beef and dumplings are just as good if not BETTER than other Chinese restaurants, and a dinner for two will run you about 30 bucks instead of 90. Mmmmhmmmm.

    Rude service

I used to love the cottage and frequent it quite often. However I have become upset by their service. I went at 10:40 PM the other night, because the website said they closed at midnight, however they treated us poorly. They basically rushed us out so fast, it was not worth it for the cheap dinner. They made me feel so uncomfortable, I have never had such rude service in my entire life. There is much better cheap places. (And the free wine really is not that good). When I asked to speak to a manager about the service they said there was none, so I let them know how awful they made us feel. And when we listed all the rude things they did to rush us out they said, "Well we never told you to leave...we had to clean up."

    Didn't Let NYC down

After I moved from Brooklyn I longed to show some of my friends in VT how good nyc chinese was. We went on a class trip there and we got room service from there three nights in a row to our hotel. Friendly people who make great food.

    rude

I was very disapointed with my delivery order. first, they forgot to bring part of my order. second, when i called back they were not willing to admit their mistake. they gave me a hard time and were just plain rude. also, i think silverware, napkins, and fortune cookies should be included in the delivery orders. if they weren't so rude i wouldn't have to write a bad review because their food is cheap and great!

America's oil addiction starts right here!

OK, it's cheap, as cheap as UWS's cheapest Chinese takeout joint, got it. Wine is free and that's to make up for the service that you won't be getting, fair enough. However I don't think they could put more oil on the food if they tried. Of course the food is tasty, it's LOADED with oil. And if you ask them to go light on the oilr, they double it just to spite you. Hey Cottage, your food, restaurant WOULD be decent if you lightened up on the oil, seriously, take a break, save some oil costs, go lite and make people happy. Other than that, it's not too bad. Like I said, the free wine makes up for the lousy and rude service, that I can deal with, I work on Wall St.

    Not good

We ordered chicken and broccoli and chicken with cashew nuts for delivery. The chicken and broccoli was drowning in tasteless sauce. The chicken with cashew nuts contained pretty much just carrots and water chestnuts, and about 3 cashews. The chicken was tough (like it had been reheated 5 times) and fatty, and the dish was overall bland. Sure, the prices are better than most UWS chinese places, but you definitely get what you pay for here.
