i have been to the cottage a million times and it gets better each time i go. Wheater its girls nite out or a night with my boyfriend the cottage is always the place to go. The food is perfect and the service is great. The prices are not outragous and make it reasonable for many to go there. I would reccomend the cottage to anyone

I came across them on one evening filled with indecision of where to eat around the area, with my boyfriend. Nowadays, The Cottage has been made into our regular choice despite certain days waiting on line. We don't mind. The food is truly amazing, especially since it is considered REAL Chinese food and not the usual take-out places you would order so-called Chinese food from. Despite how crowded they are, the service is always great. They are truly dedicated to creating a pleasant and wonderful experience for you at The Cottage. Their prices cannot be beat, and the accompanied white wine is always a thoughtful touch to draw customers in.

We ordered in given the positive reviews from this website. We received two chicken dishes that were tasteless. This wasn't b/c they didn't have a sauce -- that was slapped on thick. It just had no flavor whatsoever. I would sooner eat a can of tuna fish for dinner (minus the bread and mayo) than eat here again.

I work nearby and regularly have lunch/dinner at the cottage. They have possibly the best Scallion Pancake and Szechuan Dumplings I have ever had. And the price is ever so right! The complimentary wine is an added bonus to this restaurant with some of the finest chinese food in NYC. I must note, this is not the place to go if Roast Pork Fried Rice is your thing for it does not exist. And for that matter the Spare ribs leave a little to be desired. Everything else is FANTASTIC!!!!!

The Cottage is Chinese cuisine on the northwest corner of 77nd and Amsterdam. We arrived last night (Thursday) at about 7pm. There was no wait; they sat us immediately. Often, that's a sign that the food is bad. But their food was fine. They have a wide selection of foods, including plenty for vegetarians. We ordered broccoli with garlic sauce, tofu with veggies, red bean dim sum, cabbage dim sum, and rice. Our companion ordered noodles, which he said were fine but not spicy enough. The meal wasn't food to die for, but it was perfectly acceptable and the free carafe of white wine that came with the meal made everything taste a bit better. Moreover, the quick, correct service and cheap prices make The Cottage a keeper. We'll be back. Overall, I give The Cottage 3.5 stars (out of 5).

Me and my family have eaten there for years. We love the spicy sezchuan dumplings. And yeah, the free wine is great. It goes wonderfully with the chinese food. I've never eaten anything i didn't entirely enjoy. And the addition of some new Dim Sum appetizers, has me going even more often :) The only negative, is there is room for improvement with the service. Can take a while to get attention of servers and food. Also the chicken with crunchy walnuts....Excellent.

I don't even know where to begin! Not only is it a fantastic value, the food is damn good. The staff is so friendly to everyone - its no wonder why there are so many regulars that dine there. Everytime I bring someone from out of town out to eat chinese, I insist we go here. And, all of them agree that its the best chinese they've ever had! (It could be the free wine talking, but I tend to agree!) And the delivery?! SO fast! I highly highly highly recommend it!
