The Capital Grille

My wife and I went here because the menu has everything one could want at a steakhouse -- tartar, lettuce wedge and a nice selection of steaks. In fact, the menu is better than most other steakhouses. The problem, though, is that the dishes are not done well. Most importantly, the steaks are not even in the same league as other steakhouses. When compared to the Palm and Sparks (in the same neighborhood) and Del Friscos, Smith & Wollensky's, and The Strip House (elsewhere in the city), Capital Grille simply does not compare. Given that Capital Grille is no less expensive than other high end steakhouses, there is simply no reason to go there given the other, better, options.

The Capital Grill remains one of NYC's top steakhouses. Yes it is expensive but the portion size, service and flavor of the food is top notch. The manager of the restaurant is sure to stop by everyone's table to make sure they are enjoying their meal. If you are on an expense account or want a really special evening out this restaurant can't be beat. Make sure to try the Kona crusted steak. I agree a steak with a coffee bean crust doesn't sound appealing on first mention, but the flavors are wonderful. You won't be disappointed.

You really can't top the service you get at Capital Grill. The food is top notch. I have been there several times, and have tried several different dishes, and enjoyed them all! I really enjoyed the sliced filet with mushrooms!

This is an excellent option for a nice, long lunch. To correct the reviewer above, medium rare does *not* mean pink throughout, and this restaurant knows that. (If you want pink throughout, you can probably satisfy yourself somewhere much less expensive that Capital Grille.)

Steak joints are all about scale. The big tables, large portions, tall drinks and loud noise are as much a part of the steakhouse experience as the masculine cuts of beef. And that is certainly true at The Capital Grill. But that?s where the similarities to other steak houses end. Don?t get me wrong; The Capital Grille is a superb steakhouse. The strips are juicy and tender, and the kitchen understands that medium rare means pink throughout with a nicely charred exterior. The onion rings, crispy and sweet but also surprisingly clean tasting, are the best in the city. The creamed spinach is also first rate. But The Capital Grill is more than a steakhouse. The liver was superb, soft but not mushy and without the heavy aftertaste that afflict so many other liver dishes. The crab salad consisted of fleshy chucks of fresh tasting crab, with the lemon and avocado sharpening the flavor of the crabmeat. My companion?s salmon also demonstrated a delicate touch on the part of the chef. In an already crowded steak scene, The Capital Grill emerges as a top rate steakhouse. Though not as good as Del Frisco?s (still the best in the city), this is a close second and a much more inexpensive alternative.

But honestly, I do not think that it was significantly better than the other excellent steakhouses in the City. I would go back for sure but could also choose another steakhouse with equal satisfaction. Sparks is still my favorite!

We were very disappointed in the service the first time we ate at The Capital Grille. BUT, we were invited back and last night we had a wonderful dinner. The service was exemplary. The management was concerned that everything was perfect, the food was superb and the chef visited our table to see that we were totally satisfied. We CERTAINLY were. There wasn't one dish we would have substituted. The ambiance was delightful. The wine complimented the meal and the desserts were a perfect end to a most memorable meal. We intend to return toThe Capital Grille again and again. They are truly professionals in the restaurant business.
