allright
Like the previous person said, you have to ask & wait forever for the staff to come.. the place is so loud, we couldn't even have a normal conversation. The food was ok, i don't think this is the tastiest australian food, but it's good if you want to try something new.

Great Appetizers but horrible service
Went here for my birthday after reading all these great reviews plus my craving for those cute little kangaroo meat. At first the drinks and appetizers were great, but then we ordered the main entree's. We ordered the Australian tasting menu for 2 which includes the shrimp, kangaroo meat and Lamb. Staff was very inattentive because we had to ask them for utensils over 5 times. The waiter over there was pretty rude in the sense that he would come over to take away the plates with a really mean tone of voice "you done!"? All in all I would say this place is decent if you want to try out Australian food or kangaroo meat but dont be surprise about their service. I wont be going back there anytime soon.

Good one
I must say I was a little prejudiced against Australian restaurantds in NYC. I've once visited Eight Mile Creek and it was a very unpleasant experience(see my review). But "The Australian" is the polar opposite. Friendly staff, quick service, good food. Prices, well, maybe a little more than moderate but quanlity is worth a price. This is a place for me and I can recommend it to everybody.

warmest staff, great place
This place has the warmest and friendliest staff- they make you feel like you are part of the family. The individual who wrote the "not good" review must have been at a different restaurant! The owner is the nicest guy- everyone is accomodating. The food is also good (better than most bars) and this is by far the best place to watch a game or just sit at the bar for an after work beer and chat with the bar tenders.

Warm Beer & Kool Food
Ventured to The Australian Wed 28th May to checkout this new Aussie Joint Asked what beer was told 3 tap beers were out Settled for a Harp, was warm (now come-on we're not in London) Ok got an ice-cold Coopers! Now for the Tucker Most patrons were noshing so the Food must be Good! Allot to select from Sausage rolls, meat pies to Roo Mignon & Aussie Rack of Lamb Devoured Homemade Sausage rolls and a delectable Curry Pie (there goes my Cholesterol) Advice is stick to Bottle Beer Go @ Happy Hour And Eat to your Heart's Content ! Service was OK, thou Staff seemed to more interested in eachother and their Cell phones than the Customers! Overall: Great Food. Don't go if your not eating....Then its just another Bar!

Not Good
I have lived in NYC for 10 years and have seldom had a worse experience at a restaurant! The staff, especially the Maitre D was totally rude and condescending! This is one of the first reviews that I have written for a restaurant but I felt that I had to warn people not to waste their money!!!

Great Meat Pies and Wedges
I am somewhat of a regular down at The Australian, and I can happily say that I love the food. The chef makes a consistently awsome meat pie and I am picky about my pies! The wedges are addictive and the sweet chilli sauce is just like back in Oz...ask for extra sauce its sooo good. There is plenty of space to bring a large group in for happy hour and the staff are all very friendly...and entertaining. I would recommend and do, this place to anyone. Keep up the good work Matt.
