    The Yummy from Down Under

Great superfriendly atmosphere! Amazing barsnacks and gastro-pub cuisine try the meatpies and sausage rolls at the bar and the Barramundi or steak salad in the back. My husband loves it for the Cricket, Australian Rules Football and Rugby, my daughter loves it for the good looking Australian blokes and I love it cause of the great wine night Wednesdays when I can kick back and enjoy a flight of amazing Aussie wines for only $12

    Fun and totally different

I love this bar. Great food that's so out of the norm. Sticky prawns and the snapper cigars are my faves! And to be able to pick a fabulous beer OR a great glass of wine while I watch my favorite baseball team on satellite? Impossible elsewhere! I've never had trouble with the service unless they're absolutely slammed, so not sure why the previous reviewers had such difficulties. Oh, and they have fun and informative wine nights, too! All in all, a great addition to a neighborhood in need.

    bleeehhh

I walked in and ordered takeout during lunch. the australian burger and some buffalo wings. bacon, fried egg and cheddar on a toasted bun with some wierd gray colored mystery meat. i was hungry and the bacon, cheese and egg covered up most of the taste but there was just a gross quality about the meat. i ordered it rare but it came completely gray and was strangely mushy, reminiscent of pate but not quite that texture. it took them a full 20 minutes for my order and i guess i was just expecting a lot better. i was debating whether or not to keep going after the first bite but this was already 24 bucks so i wasn't going to get another lunch. the fries were so -so as were the wings. I got it all back to my desk in under five minutes so timing wasn't a factor. All in all, overpriced and forgettable

    allright

Like the previous person said, you have to ask & wait forever for the staff to come.. the place is so loud, we couldn't even have a normal conversation. The food was ok, i don't think this is the tastiest australian food, but it's good if you want to try something new.

    Great Appetizers but horrible service

Went here for my birthday after reading all these great reviews plus my craving for those cute little kangaroo meat. At first the drinks and appetizers were great, but then we ordered the main entree's. We ordered the Australian tasting menu for 2 which includes the shrimp, kangaroo meat and Lamb. Staff was very inattentive because we had to ask them for utensils over 5 times. The waiter over there was pretty rude in the sense that he would come over to take away the plates with a really mean tone of voice "you done!"? All in all I would say this place is decent if you want to try out Australian food or kangaroo meat but dont be surprise about their service. I wont be going back there anytime soon.

    Good one

I must say I was a little prejudiced against Australian restaurantds in NYC. I've once visited Eight Mile Creek and it was a very unpleasant experience(see my review). But "The Australian" is the polar opposite. Friendly staff, quick service, good food. Prices, well, maybe a little more than moderate but quanlity is worth a price. This is a place for me and I can recommend it to everybody.

    warmest staff, great place

This place has the warmest and friendliest staff- they make you feel like you are part of the family. The individual who wrote the "not good" review must have been at a different restaurant! The owner is the nicest guy- everyone is accomodating. The food is also good (better than most bars) and this is by far the best place to watch a game or just sit at the bar for an after work beer and chat with the bar tenders.
